Challenge: Light Source (Classic Editing)
Collection: Portfolio
Camera: Sony DSC-F707
Location: Kent, WA
Date: Oct 19, 2002
Aperture: F2.2
ISO: 320
Shutter: 1/60 sec
Date Uploaded: Oct 20, 2002

Taken after a misty rain at night, this rose was part of a beatiful rose bush in a neighbor's yard. I photographed it with my camera's infrared setting. The light source was the camera's infrared light. I converted the photo to black and white in Photoshop.

The light seems to be pointed in the wrong direction. If it's a flash, try different lighting. The top is too dark, and the bottom left, out of focus stem has too much light.

I think this a lovely shot but I would like to be sure about the light. Tell me and you have high score from Sweden. /carsten

Probably my fav. b/w, but not a lot of b/w that are good.

Good shot, good DoF, good lighting - can't help but want to see it in colour though.

Very nice. I like how the details stand out. Though I like it in bw, was there a reason you didn't use color? karmat

Nice use of the water to enhance the light. The DOF is pretty good too. Well taken photo. I'm not convinced that this wouldn't be better in color though. I think the mood changes a lot with this type of shot B&W. It's more melancholy, if not morose. But what do I know anyway? - Inspzil

the lighting needed to be a little more centered on the rose but very nice!

nice silver look.
wish that the center of the rose was as in focus as the outer leaves.

I'm a sucker for roses. Going black and white really brings depth to the shot. (9)

Alittle too much water for my tastes. The out of focus what ever just touching the rose and the whatever supposed to be in forefront detracts from other wise good picture.

very well executed. 7

numerous water droplets were a good idea.

Wow. Very very nice. Looks like someone was playing around with IR or night vision?? However it was done though, love the effect. Angle and framing/cropping are nice, and the lighting works perfectly here. Excelent shot! Good luck in the challenge. ~Hbunch7187~

This is a very nice b/w. The water droplets are a great effect for this shot. The light is obviously there, but subtle. The limited DOF works nicely. Nice shot! - 7 - JB
