This photo is to show how Jesus felt about God the moment the nail punched through his arm -- i.e. WRAITH, vengence, not love and asking him why did he forget about his only son, essentially showing Jesus is a man and committed one of the "deadly sins". :)

No doubt, i'll probably getting chewed for this by the Christians :) Flame away... give me a 1, give me a 2.....

(Taken with flash and lots of oil acrylics)

I think that this is a great picture. I love the color. It look like blood to me. And it does have some dark tones to it, but I like the effect.
paganini, Do you think God is trying to talk to you. You sure are pushing this non-christian stuff in peoples faces. That is ok. I will be praying for you. And somethings that happen are not meant for us to understand. Are minds and hearts are so intune to earthly things that we can't understand some of the things God has put out there. Just live right and try to spread happiness. God is Good!!

as far as the "fake blood" comments go: there are very few substances that look like blood other than real blood and i am not about to stake my arm to produce this image ;-) If people wanted realism, try Hollywood and special effects :-) it's meant to be symbolic. If the rules of DPC allowed some spot editing and filtering, this image would'v ebeen created different to project the symbolism and the "memory" image effects.
10/20/2002 10:33:00 PM
I am not sure why everyone think the image is "dark". It is properly exposed because the backgorund is black and the whole thing is intended to project history, and "memory images". I see people liking it and some dont' like it because of the "darkness". It's not meant and never was the intention to be meant to be obvious.

The apple symbolizes original sin and Jesus was suppose to die for sins, hence the crucifiction of him and the applpe as the removal of sins. It also shows God's WRAITH to some extent towards man in general. The title came from the Bible when Jesus is about to die he cries out for help and wonders why God has forsaken him and forgotten him, that is clearly a statement of anger/wrath and that's why it's a compliment to the image as titles should be.

Maybe the darkness is a monitor issue, it looks fine on my monitor AND the print looks fine, which is what matters.

Anyway, i fully expected the low votes but that's OK :-)

Thanks for your comments, even the hateful ones :^)

I think the idea behind this was very interesting.. but you were expecting your viewer to make too many connections with too little for them to work with. It would be difficult to realize that the apple is meant to imply that christ also commited a deadly sin when it is so difficult to even tell if the thing blocking the hand is indeed an apple. I didn't get through them all this week (since I fully commented on every one I voted on), but I think I would have given this a 5 or so. Technically the photo is good, but doesn't specifically stand out to me either.

It is notable that I appreciate your attepts at creativity here. Creative attempts by nature are hit and miss... even if I were to give this a 4 and give a great shot of a sunset a 6, I'd much prefer to have more shots in the creative vein than the generic stuff that is broadly appealing. When you're playing hit and miss, and especially with gutsy statements like this, keep shooting and you'll inevitably get better at hitting.

I just do not agree with your interpretation of the feeling behind the statement. I do not think it was wrath, but desperation. I do not believe he was angry, but perhaps fearful. Also, the shot is poorly exposed, and what is the purpose of the apple? And I gave you a 4.

very dark, which makes it difficult to get the message.

Other than trying to antagonise a certain minority on here, this is a pretty good concept, though technically lacking

wow, actual effort! how refreshing!

Very creative photo! Well done! 7/10

Make sure you wash your hands before dinner. JK, very moody with alot of emotion.

I came across this picture while eating lunch. Yes, it is gross, but the crucifixion was probably much worse! The ultimate picture for a sin challenge, simply because Jesus became sin for me so that I wouldn't have to "die." "By His stripes, we are healed." Anyway, enough preaching. The composition and framing is good. The darkness seems to make it a little out of focus. I like the coloring you have used. karmat

Powerful idea. Not usre that the colour of the blood is right?
10/17/2002 04:32:00 PM
I assume that "nail" is going through an apple first? A little less"blood" would have made for a better shot.I like your composition.

Vote 8, I love the lighting and color.

I'm sorry...with the darkened and poorly lit photo, I can't figure out what on earth this is all about. What is the thing that is attacking the wrist?
10/16/2002 07:27:00 PM
sure...
10/16/2002 06:44:00 PM
don't get but like the picture quality
10/16/2002 02:10:00 PM
This is an interesting image, but I can't determine what I'm looking at... what is this object on the wrist? What sin is being portrayed here? - setzler
10/16/2002 09:57:00 AM
Looks so fake!
10/16/2002 07:05:00 AM
You might wanna have someone look at that. I can see the intent of this picture, but I think its just too dark to get the attention of the viewers.
10/15/2002 03:31:00 PM
Is that an apple or a boil? A really big boil? Maybe a bit clearer. good luck

Pride, Greed, Envy, Wrath, Lust, Gluttony, Sloth. Which applies? Zeissman

Interesting shot... I'm not sure it's relevant to the challenge, but it's interesting... From the title (the only way I made any connection at all) I assume this refers to the Crucifixion of Christ. But I'm not sure how this relates to the 7 deadly sins. On the technical side, the sepia worked well, but the lighting seems harsh in some-places and nonexistent in others. The hand looks entirely too relaxed as well... The hand should be gnarled in pain... My biggest problem with this, is the apple (if that;s what it is) on the nail. If this is suppose to relate somehow to the fruit Adam and Eve had a run in with in the garden, then I'm lost as to how it's suppose to relate to any either the crucification or the 7 deadly sins. Thought provoking, good effort. ~MyQyl~

Wish it weren't cropped so tightly so that I could see the entire hand. I can't figure out what the round item is. It looks like an apple. If so, then I am missing the whole point.

This looks very wrathful to me. Quite an interesting effect. This looks like an apple to me, that has been skewerd through a wrist. I am not sure what the apple (if that's what it is) represents, but even without meaning, this photo still screams wrath to me. I think that the lighting is powerful for the overall effect of the shot. Your focus and clarity are decent, and the framing/cropping are also good. I might have wanted to see the finger tips, but with the circumstances, I dont think it is nessasary. Overall a powerful shot and well to meet the challenge. Good luck in the challenge. ~hbunch7187~

I have to think about it. I can tell that your photo wants to say something. The religious implications are certainly there -- I just have to figure out WHAT I think it's trying to say and whether I think it succeeds. 5 for now. I'll think about it.
10/14/2002 04:51:00 PM
Don't get it.
10/14/2002 04:08:00 PM
looks too much like chocolate syrup to me.

mysterious
10/14/2002 11:07:00 AM
My my, that's quite shocking to me! Never the less right on theme and well executed. Framing might have been better to support the dramatic composition. 7/10
10/14/2002 10:45:00 AM
I'm assuming you are making a reference to the cross and my lord, Jesus...you apparently have no understanding of this statement and therefore have absolutely no right to use it for your sick entertainment...plus your photograph lacks the shock value that you were going for because your blood looks like tar...wierd!!!

10/14/2002 07:53:00 AM
Gross!! I like that.
10/14/2002 01:30:00 AM
Too dark (lighting) ,and the "blood" - if that is what it is supposed to be, looks more like oil or grease to me. Doesn't appeal to me, also I see only an inferred connection to the 7 deadly sins; title off target for me in any case. lhall-3
10/14/2002 12:44:00 AM
I wish we could see this better. Little dark. Good luck.
10/13/2002 11:47:00 PM
Are you still alive? If not, I shouldn't bother with a comment. Another good, and disturbing, Sin image. My only gripe with it is that the blood isn't totally convincing. It looks more like oil or grease to me and because it has another consistency than real blood, it sort of sits there in somewhat of an odd pattern. As a minor suggestion, you could have shown the "Stigmata", that would have given another blow to the "Father who has forsaken you". Powerful image; a lot of impact. Wish there were more images in this vein at dpc. 9 Journey

I wish there were more brilliant reds in this photo. But it was an interesting idea.
