Looks a lot like my Emma only with a bit narrower face. I've discovered I have a very hard time getting autofocus with Emma - there's just not enough contrast in the face - the color of the fur seems to absorb light rather than reflect it, or something like that. Anyway, it's not just you! Also, the lens will have a hard time with autofocus in lower light situations. With Emma, I tend to try to manually focus to get her eyes, but she doesn't sit still much which makes it hard!

Well, everyone's already pointed out the focus problem. I had the same trouble the other night with my neighbor's Siamese at a narrow aperture. Nice cushions as a background, btw.

hiya' Kat~
set the lens to AF and then in the cam center (single) spot the focal point, set the "bleep" too so you KNOW you've got it, then click right away before the darned cat moves again! :) now try it again hehehe

she is beautiful btw!

It's those blue eyed cats - they all hate the camera I swear. At least mine does, and this one of yours too.

That cat reminds me of "Annoying Cat No. 1" here. If you're close it can be tricky to get the focus right where you want it. Next time you may want to try manual focus.

What Art says...if you want the nose to the eyes sharp, you'll go to a smaller aperture. Of course you'll lose a little light in the process, so you'll have to find the magical balance if shutter speeds start getting to slow. I'm using that same lens and am really struggling to get just the right amount of DoF.

If your camera is set to multi-point focus you can try to single it out to one point. Whatever point that is put it on the same plane as the cat's eyes (just point it at one of the eyes) and you should get the focus you and everyone desires.

I gave up trying to use autofocus on my cats. The noise from the lens hunting made them come over to see what was up. Cute kitty. Love the blue eyes.

Puss looks a bit concerned about the shoot! Beautiful cat BTW.
Yeah, it hunts when the light is low or there is not a lot of contrast. I switch to manual then.

The same thing happens to me when I use auto-focus with the cats. It finds the nose which is closer. You could try manual focus if they aren't moving around too much. Beautiful cat, by the way.

Focus seems soft - maybe too close - did the focus lock? ...looks like it mighta locked on the nose. Shoot for the eyes. Framing / Comp is good though.
