 Difficult challenge...
I wanted to avoid a constrained studio-like image.

This was captured in a real class in a real school, the children were knowing the idea, but hadn't received precise instructions about how to play this part.
I captured about 15 images, by group of 2 children.

It turned out that some of them had a great talent for comedy!

B&W was necessary - some elements of the background being too vivid. I like the B&W mood here too.

Natural light @ 400 ISO, focal lenght 24 mm, my Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 is excellent for that kind of work.


Raw converted with DXO Optics pro 5,
exposure slightly lightened,
Burned 4 corners and dodged the children,
Cropped about 80%
Converted in BW and very slightly toned
USM 42%

Wow, thanks everyone for this unexpected star, and thanks for great comments too!
As noticed by some, the pencil-holder in the foreground is certainly a flaw - I hadn't even seen it while capturing this very spontaneous scene

Hi,

I'm just wondering... if you used a 10-22 lens F3.5 - 4.5, how can the aperture in your shot be F2.8?

Great shot too!

EDIT: I just realised you mentioned you used a Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 lens.

Fun idea! A bit of a perpetuum mobile, though. Lots of bits and pieces that might have been solved differently, but that could have ruined the spontaneity.
