Yesterday, I had SOOOOO much fun. First, I went rock climbing for the first time. . .I mean, with actual ropes and harness, scaling a rock you could (and I was sure I was going to) DIE on!!! I was quite proud of myself. My hubby took a couple of pics to prove it.
and

But what was really fun: a friend of mine loaned me his macro lens so for the first time ever, I got to play with a real life macro lens. OMG, I am in LOVE! I already told Roz this, but it really makes me appreciate macro photographers' (like hers) TALENT! It's not as easy as pointing and snapping. It takes some getting used to and practice. I had a bunch of blurry non-keepers, but boy would I love to get one and learn :)

So while the rest of my friends went off to scale another rock, I was delighted to go in search of bugs and flowers and "stuff". . .anything but the side of a 75' totally vertical ROCK! :) My spider friend was drinking the juice out of a cactus, in case you couldn't tell :)

That is one creepy looking spider, and I can appreciate how hard it is to get these shots. If you don't want to spring for a macro lens, check out extension tubes. I've been playing with them for days on my 70-200 and you can get great shots. You have to get fairly close to your subject but with good glass the shots are crystal clear. I got mine for <$100 on Amazon, and the cheap ones work great.

Whoa! Made me jump! Do spiders actually drink, or was he waiting for some stupid bug to come along at lunchtime? Glad you're getting to experience the macro world. Awesome, isn't it? And, thanks for the story. Glad you survived.:>)

lovely! You do NEED a macro lens...wish I had a spare to give you. Your image is perfect.
What I love is all the stuff we can see in the pics that we'd otherwise miss with our naked eyes.

It is a window to another world...

This shot is wonderful, and your right about that lens, I'm still trying to learn to use mine. Looks like you had fun on the rocks.

Love your macro spider image, and just can't wait until you get a macro lens for yourself, as you will do wonders with it.....

Did you have to photograph a spider. They give me the creeps but they do make for interesting macro shots. Great capture. Love the focus, the colors and the hairy spider. Sounds like you had some fun.

I have this incredible fear of spiders, and when I first looked at this last night it creeped me out severly, so much in fact that I actually had a nightmare about this spider last night. I give you PROPS for taking this. Beautiful BUT scary.

UGH!!! I HATE bugs, any and all kinds...well, except roly poly's.

Great job with your first time with a macro lens. Looks like you have it mastered.

Excellent shot for a first up Sandy - I would have a guess that this little fella is about 1/4" long. Nice capture and DOF.

Great shot. And you had great fun doing it...that's the best part. I'm going to have to get one, too. Diopters just don't get it.

Oh Sandy - get yourself (or have someone buy you - GRIN!) the Canon 100mm 2.8 - it is SENSATIONAL!

I am SO in love with mine. I LOVE the options it give me - sigh...

Sorry this was supposed to be about you - GRIN!

GREAT image - although I wouldn't get that close to a spider - I might have had to use my precious lens to defend myself against it!

You are a brave, brave, (insane), brave woman!! Kudos for conquering the rockface and for getting close enough to that spider to get a great picture. Terrific story, post, and pics!!! :)
