Very nice capture Sandy and you are right, it's good in both Color and B&W. It is amazing the animal shots that you get and here with this butterfly you can see that she is actually smiling at you. |

Amazingly sharp details here. Like the combination of the interesting patterns of the butterfly and of the leaf. |

I don't think you need to be in any color to get a macro - this one works just fine. Excellent detail, dead-on focus, wonderful composition with all of the supporting elements. And I do prefer the B&W simply because it really puts the emphasis on the butterfly and its face. Worth of awards, accolades, and publication. |

Beautiful detail, admirable close focus, I enjoy the prominent interaction of the angle planes between wings & foliage. I like both versions. The edit has a great crop & composition. Zooms like yours are so wonderfully capable. Even though this square format works so well, for myself and only a suggestion for consideration, I might choose it below what the full frame may be or also how a proportional to camera frame format crop might look. |

Sandy, this photograph is amazing in both color, and black and white. The sharpness is incredible, especially around the eye and head. The lighting on the butterfly and the leaf is perfect, and the bokeh in the background adds interest in the negative space. |

I can't decide which I like better, but this is fantastic. What makes this work for me is the high contrast on the butterfly to keep my eye focused there, and the great tones in the leaf and beautiful bokeh. I also want to know how you got him to smile! |

Awesome capture Sandy! I hope this isn't the week we are supposed to be critical because it would be hard on this shot. I think the tilted composition really makes this pop...well that and the great b/w tones. I do prefer this one over the color, but strangly enough I like the color thumbnail better. I don't know what that means, just an obersvation! That 70-200 L is amazing! I gotta get me one.... |

I should just create a stamp for posting comments on all your images to save myself some typing every time one comes along. Something like: "Wow! What a gorgeous shot. Absolutely stunning, fantastic, beautiful." :)
I like the B&W version better, also. And let me thank you for using a deeper depth of field. So often, with macros of insects, people go so shallow that only a tiny sliver of the insect is in focus. This shot is perfect. Just enough to get the entire butterfly and the leaf in focus, while leaving a beautiful background. |

Absolutely incredible as usual. He actually looks like he's smiling for the camera. Nice bokeh in the background. Personally I think this could have won a monthly freestudy entry....in color or B&W. I do agree, I think I like it better in B&W as well. |

This is special on so many levels - I love it! Perfect DOF captures the brilliant perspective of the leaf, framed by the background bokeh. The butterfly actually looks like (s)he's striking a pose and looking into the lens! Awesome shot. |

Sandy, you got another winner. There are alot of positives here: the diagonal lines lead the eye into the frame, the lines on the butterfly lead the eye back to the center of the image, the lines on the leaf lead the eye to the center of the image, the range from white to black is great. The only downside is the sparkles in the background, but that is very minor. |

May have changed my mind - will this fascination with the difference between colour and BW never end??!!!
The BW really POPS. AND I think if the black border were really huge, say in a wide matting when you print and frame it, it would be excellent. And when you do, you might lighten the area around the shiny black eye. This is a very exciting picture. |

I actually like the b&w verison better than the color one. I think that the b&w allows the eye to pay more attention to the pattern and lines where the color grabs the attention away from those. Nice choice for b&w and well done on the focus and composition! |

The lines (leaf, butterfly wings and legs) in this shot are magnificant. Also like the bokeh in the background - nice touch.
I have to admit though, that I like the color version a touch better. Maybe because of the clear separation of foreground (leaf) from background. However, both are very good. |

This is really beautiful and a pleasant departure from all the colored bugs. Having said that, I actually like the color version better because it's very delicate whereas most people would have saturated that image to high hell. Both versions are excellent.

Actually a rare instance of me preferring the colour, so understated, which settles the subject so nicely in context, and shows the eye better, but that might be my monitor. Perhaps the black and white brings out more the drama of your DOF, and increases the sense of space, though I think the thick black border over emphasizes the black in the subject which doesn't need it. In any case, a delightful shot, the zoom did good and so did you in the composing. That smile certainly does no harm!
