 This kitesurfing instructor, Camilo, wanted a new picture for his business card. Having taken these same types of shots of him last year, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I changed from the Nikon 70-200VR to the Tokina 12-24, waded about 200 yards offshore, and told him to jump right over me. He is extremely talented and has always been able to pull off the most amazing jumps while looking directly at me.

I am very hesitant about entering this shot out of fear that too many voters will not understand that this is truly an environmental portrait shot...at the client's request no less. I hope that you will all be kind and open minded and not have to wait until you read these details to understand how this certainly does meet the challenge, even if it is a most unique portrait.

Yayyy!!! My faith in the DNMC Monsters has been bumped up a little in this challenge :) This is awesome. And of coooooourrrrseee it is a perfect environmental portrait. Congratulations on a nice strong top 20 finish!

Nice capture! I really like everything about this except that it is slightly over-saturated, and unfortunately it makes the guy look like he's wearing makeup!

Great action shot, crisp and strong colors. The post precessing seems a touch overdone, given the stron light the shadow areas are a bit flat losing some of the modeling of the light, he looks a touch too silloetted. Minor quible, and it would make a great promotional shot.

This is a bad ass shot. I'm guessing this is kite surfing? The shot is very clean and in focus and the white clouds are necessary in the background to add to the dramatic style of the photo...6

This is a cool action shot. the environment is bare, but not sure if you need much, flying high over your camera is usually enough for the viewer to get the point.
