Key light was 500W halogen plus some daylight to camera right. Hair highlights provided by another halogen 500W lamp bouncing off ceiling from behind subject on camera right, reflector underneath subjects at camera left to lift shadows using bounce from ceiling. After some 90 odd shots took 3 with bunny and this is one! Cropped and rotated. Black clipped to remove unsightly rabbit hairs(he's moulting!)from polo neck sweater and to even out background. Mole removed at model's request.
Really need a softbox or two but, bearing in mind the kit, I am happy with the result. Looks OK in black and white too, couldn't decide which to submit.

Greetings from the Critique Club...

Hi Hugh...

I think you did a nice job with the pose and overall idea on this portrait. There are two items that bother me slightly. Her head looks like it's floating in space due to loss of detail on her clothing. This is possibly a black or dark colored shirt that is not receiving any light in this composition. The background color change to the right of the rabbit on the lower portion of the frame is also a bit of a distraction. I do like the somewhat diagonal composition of the eyes in this photo. That camera angle seems to work nicely and upset the balance to a point where everyting doesn't seem static.

Nice idea, but I don't think the rabit enhances the portrait. The lady on her own would have made a great portrait as well. The light is perfect, bringing out the hair color, nice soft light on the face, good expression, make-up. 9

The lady is lovely...no, beautiful. Her hair, and coloring is perfect and the light is wonderful. The bunny.....nice also! This is really attractive, good shooting. I hope this does well. Charming shot.

lovely use of dof. great clarity in the woman's eyes. bunny's eyes to woman's eyes works well, but interest could have been made with bunny's eyes to woman's cheek too. Either way, you have shown an emotional closeness.

A great idea for this challenge. I like the overall composition. My only suggestion is that maybe a bit of photo shop work woudl be in order. THere seems to be a harsh amount of light against the lipstick and the pupil. It's a very sharp image and I like it a lot, but the reflections of hte light is a little bit distracting. Softening the white lights in the pupils would strengthen the overall image. However, I really like the overall effect and I"m sure you'll do well. Good luck!

There needs to be more separation from the black background. The clothes blend in so much that the face looks dislocated. Nice capture, though.
