Spend a wet and cold, but wonderful afternoon and evening in Amsterdam. A kind of party with my work, had to answer a lot of questions and do some strange things in the city (all about Rembrandt), but the pubs were OK. Just took my 135mm lens with me. The weather forecast was very bad (and they were almost right). The shot was made during dinner (didn't had much space to move). Two of the actors during the prize awards.

I don't like the head in the bottom left so much, but I didn't want to crop it off (then I'm missing a piece of the painting).

Not much editing (again): a little crop, converted to B&W (high contrast), from raw, noise reduction, a little level adjustment, resized and sharpened.

Very well seen. This is a great shot, very crisp where it should be.

I love the composition here to balance the stark whiteness of the woman -- her hair, her skin -- against that of the man behind her. There is a story here, one beyond actors and even perhaps beyond people.

Wicked clarity and contrast! Cool way the dress is picked out and reflects - or seems to reflect - in the glass. Oof people there for us to make up stories about, possibly sinister but not impinging on the light and focus emanating from the subject.

I know nothing about this person, but it seems like she is trying to decide about a lover or partner and the OoF men are her sub-conscience throwing her options around for us to see.

Great b/w tones. Nice capture of a moment.

To select a moment and a subject and concentrate ones skills on those items is what you teach me here. The stillness of a moment - as is appropriate for a still camera - is not always easy to achieve. You did. Rembrandt would have preferred to put the light into the darkness; in that situation, one has to find darkness to dilute the light.

good contrast of the 'dark man' and the pretty blonde in the front - i agree with you on the head in the far left - it doesn't seem to work and a bit of cloning may work for you to maintain the neg space over there.

Nice depiction of the serious look on the woman. Other people in photo are OOF enough that they add interest without distracting. The beer makes me thirsty!

nope, I don't need another lens!!

Focus/dof is spot on here I think with great framing/composition. I was going to suggest a crop on the right to the edge of the 'bodyguards' hat but on reflection I prefer as is. Well done you :)

The lighting is perfect. I like how they all seem to be doing something different.

I like the contrast between the actress and the guy, both in tone and look on their face.

I think the DOF helps a lot with this photo. The actress is the only part of the photo totally in focus (except for the beer). The guy's dark jacket in the background helps her to stand out even more.

Very nice capture in my opinion...You really got a lot out of that 135..ISO 1600 and handheld at 1/60? I'm impressed! You handled the lighting so well. You are making me want that lens :)

She's an actress? Who is she? Love her shirt and the tones are just right for b/w here. Good job.

It's a good "candid" - that word gets sullied sometimes, but life is pretty much candid most of the time. Very nice work with available light and a very good range of tones.

This kind of photo does help me tho. Because I like it, and it helps me to realize that you don't have to always have perfectly composed shots with no distractions to have an interesting photo that draws you in and makes you enjoy looking at it.

Is that her big burly body guard behind her? He looks fierce :)

The ligh is quit flatering to the woman. It doesnt bother me to bottom left but I do find the dark figure behind her a little .. annoying.
