 After a lot of mucking about trying to work out what to shoot (and what I could shoot) I came up with this...what I hope is a nice safe entry. It's an HDR time lapse if you hadn't already noticed - two new ruleset toys for the price of one :)

I haven't done any dodging or burning to try to merge the six exposures together, just timeslices taken between 4.00pm and 6pm (and it was bloody freezing!).

PP: each frame has tone mapping from three separate exposures (-2, 0, +2 using AEB), levels, usm. Image flattened, resized to 720, jpg.

I'm actually not sure about this one. There's a load of things that I'd like to do better but I'm not sure (a) if it's legal or (b) if I have the skills to do it! (e.g. merging the 6 frames together with some judicious burning of grass and shadows etc. Perhaps I also should have debarrelized it to get rid of the curvature from the fisheye. I tried this as a 2, 3, 4 and 6 slice image but I liked this one the most because it shows the transition of light nicely. I hope it breaks a 6 just so that I froze my bits off for a decent score :)

Post Challange: I'm happy with a top 20 position and a 6.3 score. I think if the judges had been a bit less lenient I'd have finished much better (as evidenced by the new version of Advanced Rules) but hey - I'm trying to unhook myself from a score and placing obsession and failing!

Even with some work it's still going to look like a single shot sunset and as a Time Lapse photo I prefer the clear distinctions. It's going to look wicked at full res printed and framed (it definitely lost something in the reduction).

Nice job. I think the 6 defined areas per exposure look great and is something I probably would not have thought of!

I have been wanting to do a similar shot, though more of a dawn till dusk timescale. How many shots would look best is yet to be seen, though I am struggling to find the time, location and weather to attempt this!

Very nice job - got an 8 from me. You can blend the frames using gradient layer masks instead of hard rectangles, as Falc and I did. Then again, your score crushed mine, so I'm not sure you should take advice from me. :) Congrats on top 20!

I was initially not sure about the lines in this shot where the photo was put togethter, however as an over all effect looking at the whole photo I really like it, and the way it has been constructed makes it stand out. Lovely photo :)

I like the attempt at a day to night time lapse. but the transitions are way too strong. Perhaps more of a gradient change would have been better.

I wouldn't have thought to leave the transitions very...obvious, is the best word I can muster up, but it works well. I really like this.

very pretty and one of the more unique ways to demonstrate the time lapse in this challenge. it's neat to be able to compare the colour change over the time you took this.

I really like the idea of the HDTR, I just find the hard lines to be distracting in the image. If it were blended more than I could appreciate this photo more. 6.

Second time I've looked at this shot before commenting. It's sort of cool, but it just keeps striking me as some sort of example photo. Like 'heres a shot showing how 6 different levels adjustments will affect your image'. Very static, no life.

inventive - like the fish eye effect - background building takes away from overall composition. I know it couldn't be avoided given your vantage point but the white roof pulls my eye to an uninteresting spot. As presented one of my ribbon picks
