Challenge: Fire (Advanced Editing I)
Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S602Z
Location: Home
Date: Feb 28, 2004
Aperture: F3.6
ISO: 160
Shutter: 1/2.5 & 1/250
Galleries: Macro
Date Uploaded: Feb 29, 2004

I performed a double exposure: a 1/2.5 sec. exposure of the unburned (illuminated) match (so as to expose the match stick and head fully), followed by a 1/250 sec. exposure of the lit match w/out additional lighting (this second exposure captured mostly the flame).

Edits performed: Rotated, USM, slight color adjustments, cloned a few 'hot' pixels and a slight blur of red on the extreme right edge of the match tip. Cropped and bordered for submission to 'fire' challenge.

The most original match of the bunch. Good shot, goot texture on the match head.

Great closeup of the match. Incredible details. The flame has a brilliant, vibrant color. The black background really helps to set the subject and the bakcground apart. Quite a bit of negative space. I believe cropping a bit off of the left would make it a better composition, but that's minor. "10"

Good clarity, nothing overexposed and composition is perfect. Simple concept plus good impementation equals one great image.

the definition on the match is flawless, but the flame needed better focus IMO.

Good timing! To steady the match, line up the camera, focus AND take the shot all before the match head had blackened is a feat in itself. Getting closer, if your camera allows it, might have been preferable.

Very clever indeed. Great photo in general, including use of the blank space.
