Actually just unpacked and setup my new monolights, lol. wanted to practice with some dramtic lighting so I thought why not enter and get a few comments!! So anyway I present to you me as lit from the side with a single 160ws mono light with a honeycomb and barn doors...Processed with PS7 layers for hue/sat (minimal adjustment), levels, and brightness/contrast, also very minimal burning on background layer.

Score prediction...5.0...maybe!! Just looking for suggestions really...

God sharpness and contrast. I agree with Melethia on the rest.
Look forward to seeing more photos.

I think you got pretty close to what you were trying to do! My one suggestion would be to wear a shirt that does show up just a bit, to prevent the "floating head" syndrome. And perhaps just a wee bit more light on the lit side, with a reflector on the unlit side to give a hit of shape to that side of the face. Or not. :-)

Jack!!!!!!!!

Good to see you back in the challenges, although I have to confess that I did not recognise you...Time has obviously ravaged your once youthful countenance ;-)

I really like the light set up for this shot, I am a big fan of half face portraits although I always have to cheat and use the edge of the frame to achieve this. Really like the blackness of the black, and the sharpness of the shot

Hope all is well with you

Neat lighting, Jack. I wish the visible side was a little brighter -- a little more contrast.

We needed to have a light saber in our photos! Nice 'dark' lighting. BB

I like this effect but the lighting is a little dark.

Needs a fuller tonal range. Too gray overall.

Simple, powerful. Technically could be better lighting wide. A bit more light would hurt but it's a nice portrait photo overall :)

Good, a textbook example, I'd say. I wish I didn't read the title, because now I'm trying to see the dark side, which can't be seen, I think.

I dig your composition, I would have liked the half of your face to be a tad brighter but I really like your idea and setup. Nice job.

I see what you're going for but the light is a little too dark on your face for my liking

I love this type of photo. It's very dramatic. It fits your ruggedly handsome face very well :)

I like the idea, but I would have cropped about two thirds off the right. Really nice texture.

Beautifully composed. There is just one thing selfish me wants to see in it is, the highlights are lifted little bit more up. Since it was advanced editing challenge the highlights could have been dodged little bit. I feel might be better than this. Anyway liked it.
