Wow… I had no idea this picture would score this high at all…

I really just entered it on a whim (as most of you noted its probs a stretch for the challenge... er... sorry? hah), and had I thought it had a shot of doing any good I would have thought twice about placing myself and a friend in the upper corner there which I did just for kicks as I was taking some long exposures of the street scenes below... but the response to the figures seemed to have been somewhat mixed I dunno, I think I like them there, but I would have changed their pose somehow.

I thought about titling it something cheesy to shoehorn it into the challenge more smoothly like 'new opportunities in new york' or something but just left it like this.

It’s a long exposure (was it 15sec?) taken from a Midtown-West high-rise, I just laid my camera on the balcony wall which scared me to death because it was hanging over the edge and its really windy up there…

Processing = crop, grayscale, duotone, curves curves curves, crop, resize, USM, border, S4W…

Thanks to all for the votes and comments!

MY FIRST BLUE! sweeeeet thanks guys for the votes and all!

and again sorry for the shoehorn especially to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th places but i really didn't think this picture would get above a 6

It's an old metropolis yes. But... It is the new civilization and way of living. The Western World Hub, timeless beauty and modernism.

I don't think it's a shoehorn at all :) New York is "something" New. And what a fabulous, very deserving photo to win top honors. I love your angle. It makes it so interesting! Congratulations!!!!!

Congrats on the new PB dude and the ribbon, think this shot is pretty cool, especially the angle/composition and also the "ghosts" in the upper right corner.

Well done on the blue :-) I don't think this is a shoehorn at all. New York has got New in the name even if it has been around for ages

Sweet lights! BB

PS. I like the 'duo-tones' here too

Excellent image! The only suggestion: maybe the right portion (with the two people) should have been cropped out, or a slightly different angle when taking the shot. Either was one of the best in this challenge in my opinion!

nice take on the challenge. i love the duotone, reminds me of Dark City or some movie.. In a challenge filled with "new wannabe" photos, this tops them all. My only 10.

I like this image very much. Amazing. The only downside is the people standing in the window.

hope those two persons ruining your picture didn't get away like this

nice but I would of retaken the shot with out the people on the right or cropped them out

i really like those people standing on the roof looking over the city

I like the perspective. However, the people in the upper right of the composition detract from the otherwise great image.

I really like this one because its not the normal New York City point of view. I really like the two figures standing in the corner, its kinda "were's waldo" reminiscent, just a little something extra that doesnt catch your eye right away.

But NYC is quite old. Ya know? Very nice extended exposure, for sure. I like the sepia, too.

Clever title, bit of a stretch though :). I really like the reflection on the right side of the building. Bummer about those people on the top right corner...

Yeah! I want to go visit. Fits the challenge for me. shame about the reflections

absolutely brilliant exposure and perspective. i am not sure whether the reflections in top right corner adds anything to the subject 9
