I found this large garden spider while wandering around a resort in Florida in search of fauna. I really liked how the backlit legs seemed to glow yellow and didn't even know there was a macro challenge when I shot it. This was a tough shot since I only had a monopod with me, the evening light was fading, and the web was blowing around in a stiff breeze, but shoot enough frames and eventually you'll get a sharp one. I had a difficult time deciding between this one and a tree frog macro I really liked, but there's no question about meeting the challenge with this one! ;-)

Processing: Convert from RAW with extra vibrance, clarity and saturation. Cropped, Levels, Dodge & Burn, Saturation, slight color shifts, Noise Ninja, several rounds of USM and some blurring on the background.

Post challenge: Well, I certainly can't be disappointed with this score... it was in the mid-5 range after 50 votes! I had some calibration issues with a new monitor that I finally resolved last week, so the color of my last three entries weren't quite what I intended. :-/ In retrospect, one of my outtakes may have been more appealing (certainly for the Flora/Fauna challenge)

Shannon - An excellent image. I love the geometric shapes created by this close crop of a helpful but scary looking creature.

OK, this just scared the crap out of me! I am a severe arachnophobe. It is a real macro, which gets extra points...but ugly as hell and scary. 7
