Negative space or not, this is a very good photo. And it brings back memories for me. I used to live there. I worked in a parking garage at Blvd of the Allies and Wood Street. Pittsburgh has a great skyline, especially from the south side. Keep up the good work. |

Just thought I'd add a couple "where my mind was" comments to this one. To me the challenge was to make use of negative space ("space which isn't the subject") to create a "wow" effect. My thought here was that the water/sky would be the negative space surrounding the bridge.
I came upon this scene where a large neon sign illuminates the train tracks, and I thought that would be an interesting use of the "negative space." The problem with this is that, in reality, what happened was that the tracks became a distraction, and kind of became a secondary subject or co-subject of the shot... and they didn't really relate to the bridge in a way that enhanced the subject.
So the end result was a lot of "what the heck is with the red tracks" comments, which in retrospect is a very good question! Thanks for the comments -- while hardly my best placing during the challenges, this has probably been the week I have learned the most about an aspect of photography, which is what I'm here for! |

Great color effects. I'm not sure if I'd like it better with still water/clearer reflections or this way, but if it were convenient I'd reshoot it myself if possible. I really like everything else about it. |

The bright red is extremely distracting for this photo mostly filled with yellow hues. |

How did you get the railroad bed to be so red? was it just the lighting? It adds an interesting contrast, but I think it detracts from the lights on the bridge. Very nice night exposure |

I love it... I'd love to know how you accomplished the red in the foreground. Really nice shot, but not much negative space. 7 for the current challenge, 10 otherwise |

Funk-ola. I have taken MANY like this one, and I'm curious about the red foreground. Is it due to a train signal? This has to be 4 or maybe 8 seconds, yes? Honestly, I like the photo, though I don't think it truly embodies the idea of neg space. 7 |

The lights in the city look great, the red foreground is kinda distracting. |

I like this city scape and teh warmth it seems to have. The red foreground is interesting. Did you mean to do that? If so how, and why? I don't think it is necessarily bad, just interesting. karmat |

That is a really red traintrack. I like all the lights and stuff in the background, but that traintrack is red. The bridge is beautiful, the ground is red. That's a little too distracting to me. :) I would have liked it more cropped right above that red post. 5 |

The red is to much. It would have been better to crop the picture more and just show a little bit of the red part. |

I can´t find the negativ space in this pic. I think it have to crop it from the sea and up to the sky to make it for me: |

I love this photo. I think the red foreground of the tracks is more interesting than the bridge. If I had to determine the negative space in this photo it would be everything but the tracks. |

Love this! excellent use of negative space... dark sky, reflections in the water, red RR tracks (how did you get that color? local lighting?) Looks like you "get" negative space... and with a lot of elements to boot. well done. (10) ~mcmurma |

Where is the negative space meant to be? The sky? There's too much going on and it's competing with the emptiness that I'm assuming you meant to be the sky. |

I think this is a excellent photo. The colours are bright, it's sharp, the composition is spot on, I don't consider it to show negative space though. Great pic all the same. 8-Martin |
