You know what?? I really like it! It's artsy, and I am becoming wild about the layered brush look on photos. Way to go trying new cool things. I think it turned out quite nice!

i'm thinking a different blending mode might work better ... maybe if you tried playing around with the overlayed layer ... like there are so many options ... (excuse me while i open photoshop so i can look .. my memory is not reliable!!) ..
you can just sort'v scroll down the different blending modes and it will change on your image .. you then can change the opacity coz different modes will be better at different opacities .. when you use these blending modes they wont show on an area that is either white or black .. you can sometimes paint an area with grey on your normal layer, where there is white or black, so that the overlaid one shows .. i did that with my driving image ...
i've copied this for you coz its too hard to explain ... if i havent totally confused then we're both winners ... my terminology might be a bit off .. but by modes i mean eg .. normal, dissolve, darken, multiply etc etc ... :)..x
