Drawing is actually a photo of a pencil tweaked in PS, hand is mine - couldn't get rid of that paper edge without blowing out the rest of the pic, but i kinda liked it (apparently quite a few did not :(

Nice drawing. Neat concept. Would have liked to have NOT seen the wall or whatever in the lower left.
08/25/2002 06:25:00 PM
This is very clever, and I think it would be even more clever if there was no hand and the pencil was (by itself) drawing a self portrait. Did you draw the picture on the paper, or was it a photoshop job?

Clever picture of a drawing!
08/25/2002 09:10:00 AM
very cleaver

This is easily the best of the "pencil while drawing" shots. I'm not sure about originality because so many had the same idea, but technically it's superior.

a touch more visible texture to the paper on top or less sharpening, maybe? that area seems a bit too stark to me. It's an extraordinary drawing and a very nice arrangement.

Good idea. best of the " theme" of self portrait so far. Good color and excellent drawing make this picture "happen".

Wow - someone can DRAW!
08/21/2002 04:00:00 PM
cute!

I wish I could draw like this! I think I would have changed two things. I'd like to see the whole pencil instead of having the end cut off, and I find the edge of the paper in the lower right hand corner a little distracting.

clean image. i really like the "drawn" pencil, very well done. ~mcmurma

This is great. Wish couldn't see the edge of paper beneath the hand but that's a minor point. Is that white paint on the back of your hand? :)

One of my top 10 for the week. I think I would prefer for the eraser to not have been cropped off.

Nice composition, (beautiful artwork!), good execution of the idea. I like this a lot. lhall

Did you actually make that drawing of the pencil. Because if you did, you sure know how to draw! Beautiful. This is a good image. Good composition. Good lighting. This is also the 182nd image I have been voting on since last night and I have seen so many images of hands drawing that my mind is a little confused about it now. So, I feel I'm not doing you justice by finalizing this now. Will give it a 6 for now but will definitely revisit lateron this week and study it with a fresh eye. Sorry. Journey
Update: Mmm, yes, I like this image. It is a clean, sharp image, very nice divisions of the negative space. I have one nitpick though: there are some stray pixels around the top part of the hand and there are some white spots on top of the hand (not referring to the skin pigments). I am wondering whether that's the result of oversharpening a little?? 8 Journey Final score: 9 -- J

Did you draw this or is it something you have hanging already? Great picture none the less. 7.

i am amazed at the depth that this photo has, I can't decide if I like the photo or the drawing more, (8)

This is phenomenal. i really love the concept here and I think several people, like yourself, had similar ideas. Kudos to you and everyone who did, because I'm enjoying these immensely. Only minor 'goof' for me in this photo is the paper edge under your hand. it's not really a 'distraction' but I think the image would be improved without it. This is print-worthy material :) Great shot... = 10 - jmsetzler

Best drawing I've seen in this form. Seems a lot of folks had this idea....but I like this one best. 8 kdjohnson

Very nice sketch work. I am a real beginner, why did you crop the pencil off? Other than that it's a real crisp shot. - 8
08/19/2002 06:38:00 AM
With the photos containing drawings, I can only wonder if the pencil actually did the drawing, or if the drawing was taken from something. Then I thought, who cares. The point has been made, the idea is really neat and if properly excecuted, overall great effect. The only things holding me back from giving this the highest rating is (and I know this is REALLY picky) but seeing the edge of the paper. I don't think we have to see the edge of the paper to know it's a drawing. Also, I think it would have a higher visual impact if you could have gotten the shadow of the drawing in the same direction as the hand. Great shot and good luck in the challenge.
08/19/2002 06:04:00 AM
Excellent work! Are you the photographer and the sketch artist? This is really great - can barely tell that the shadow is drawn. Great work. 9
