 I don't particularly like this picture (too colorful and cartoonish to my taste) but hope it would do okay in a Free Study... Anyway, gotta take advantage of our 3-day trip to the Death Valley and of my very early rise (I am NOT an early riser) :)

Converted from a single RAW file three times and assembled using Photomatix's Tone Mapping.

This photo reminds me paintings of Nicholas Roerich, Russian poet, Buddhist philosopher, and painter of the early XX century. He spent much time in Tibet and painted a lot of mountain landscapes in this over-saturated style.

And it did indeed do well. I don't see it as too colorful, though - seems nicely subdued compared to a lot of DPC-friendly shots. What I like is the striations/strata in the rock - I love good roadcuts for that very reason - and you did a very nice job of highlighting the geologic structure.
