 I actually had this idea and went downtown to shoot it, although I'm expecting someone to claim I forced a nice shot into a challenge where it didn't belong.

Shot after midnight on a beautiful, clear night. I couldn't believe it when the moon rose right next to the Capitol and them moved diagonally up and to the right to directly over the dome.

I'm not sure I believe that Congressional representatives can be bought quite as easily as some would argue, but the idea fit well for the challenge.

For those of you who haven't shot the moon before: it's basically impossible to properly expose a night scene and the moon simultaneously, at least without a dark filter for the sky. The moon needs to be exposed like a brightly sun-lit object (think the beach at noon). I often take moon shots at 1/100s or faster and a mid-range f-stop.

Here's how this would look with just a wee bit of compositing (and that version is available as a print):

Without the blown moon, this is an amazing image. I certainly expected it would score a lot higher than it did! I just looked at your composite and I think you have a serious award-winner there.
Having previously lived in DC, the title spoke volumes to me. I laughed my @&& off. Question for me, which I'll also post in suck thread: did you use a star filter? I've been curious about those for awhile. Or just a very small aperture?

What a beautiful photo!!!! And such a creative concept. Sorry they didn't go for it better. This would have made a great Free Study shot I bet.

the details in the dome is amazing. that is to say, i'd personally not include the features below. how i wish your camera has multiple-exposure function. you could then shoot the dome with a medium-length lens, change the lens to a more powerful one, and then include the moon. it'd make a great picture that won't violate the rules.

I love everything about this except the moon...it's a major distraction from the overall image. No moon...10...with moon 8.

Nice picture, but nothing about the picture meets the "For Sale" aspect. Granted, the title of the picture does, but not the picture.

I like the position of the moon centered. I know how DPCers are though and there'll probably be comments about it in the negative but I like it. Overall I like the photo and the title ties it in to the challenge (power for sale). 7
