klstover has the right idea, the relationship of the individual to the world, which is one definition of "life." Whether or not that world is cold and harsh is up to the viewer.

I will admit, though, that I did not take this photo for the challenge. I simply wanted to enter it and had either Life or Death to choose from. Once I thought of the title I was satisfied that it was close enough.

I chose "Musical" because the moon (yes, that really is the moon, and it really was that color) looks like a musical note and the power lines look like a staff, at least to my pathological eye.

Finally, I was not purposely trying for a brown ribbon, though I knew this was certainly a contender. I have the same answer that I have to a recent comment that says my out-of-focus may have been "intentional." I did not do it intentionally, but I submit it knowingly.

Didn't deserve brown ribbon imo. Way too good for brown.

This is a great photo as it conveys a ton of thought and emotion. I like the setup, the colors, and patterns. I think I would enjoy the noise more if it was more the luminance type rather than the chroma type, but great effort. I'll actually need to vote in the contests you are in sometime, rather than after the fact.

Oh my gosh. I almost spoiled you brown ribbon. I gave this a 9. I really like the colors and the way the dark area on the bottom mirrors the power lines. I had no idea what that bright worm was, but the bright spot of color was key to the composition. This must have been really fun for you reading all the comments. Congratulations on meeting your goal.

I agree, but this shot was an accident. As it is, you just have to accept that it is an extremely low note. :)

You flatter me with the comparison. His image is an excellent evocation of music, head and shoulders above the hordes of guitar players you will find in the DPC portfolios.

I'm lucky enough to have a brother-in-law who is completely "off the wall" with his photographic style. He sees amazing things where others see nothing but grain and blur, and he has taught me to look for some of those amazing things too :) In a round-about sort of way, your image reminded me of one of his: music is wrought from base elements with bare hands

Interesting piece of art there, Don. Well, first let me congratulate you on knocking off your goal of getting the brown without trying. :)

As to the image, I do like it as an abstract. I find that the large grain makes it look almost like a pointillist painting, and I've always liked those.

As to how it relates to the concept of life, I have to admit I'm scratching my head.

Oh, no, a brown one! :) Is this your first? You were asking for it with this shot, though, but you know it. Next time shoot your dog inside a light bulb, and you should do better. :)

Well, I have to say I kind of wavered back and forth about the score throughout the week. I liked the image; there was never any question about that. Noise... geez, what's wrong with grain like this in an abstract? Beautiful colors, a strong visual subject in the lower left so that the eye does not wander, the image in the background of power lines but are we certain that's what they are.. all combine to create a beautiful piece of art. I just did not know if it related to the challenge for me. In the end though, I felt that it did. This may not be what you were going for, but it was my take on it: The yellow/orange light is the individual (or the two married who are now one flesh) - reaching out and holding strong against the colder, harsher outside world. That definitely relates to the challenge for me, and in the end, I gave it a score that I really would have loved more than three people to give as well.

This is musical. You placed the light squiggle into the lower left corner, but the squiggle attracts a lot of attention. I wish you found another spot in the frame for such accent. 7
