I, too, like the trees as a method of framing the shot. Gives a sense of depth and size. Does look like the castle needs a wee bit o' maintenance. And having spent a whopping two weeks in Europe now, I can understand the whole gray sky phenomenon. :-)

I think this shot was under rated. I was one of the 6's. I agree about the over sharpening. Maybe you should try 'smart sharpen' if you are using CS2. That seems to create fewer, or less severe halos than USM. I like the concept of the transparent border, but on the bottom, it may be detracting from the feeling of distance to the castle. Maybe it would work better if it were the same width as the sides and top, or you might have to eliminate it all together. (You'd have to change the color of the text then.) I like your choice of font and the trees framing the shot.

Try reprocessing it with a little less sharpening and lot more contrast. I bet you can get those clouds looking pretty dramatic.

I like the trees framing the scene, but I agree that then the whole-frame border conflicts with them.

nice border but focus appears off a little.

Lacks sharpness

Nice historic scene. Less of the branches would be better, e.g., a perspective from a step or two closer.

Very nice, really makes good use of the tree for framing. Just a bit fuzzy or it would be an exceptional photo

text is lost in the border & the half-trees are not working for me

This composition to this photo is great. I just wish there were more depth of field to make the castle sharper.

Be careful about sharpening - there are clear halos on all the edges.

Castle does not look quite in focus, and sky is very bright. Do like the border and font choice.

Shame the Yorkshire skies didn't co-operate

The focus seems to lack really sharp focus and lighting are a little subdued for a postcard - it's hard on a cloudy day sometimes to make a nice postcard!.

light is flat, nothing really sharp here

A little bit blurry. The border you chose also works against the framing you've implemented with the trees.

Very nice. I like the splash of trees in the front. Might be cool to darken those clouds, make them more ominous and moody.

Very cool photo, but I think a different choice of border would have worked berrer. It's just kind of distracting when you try to read the text...but I'm not dinging it for that. It's about the photo, not the border.
