I had to inspect a roof and wall at a nice old lady's home. She knew my granddad so we had a chat and I got to know things I never knew before about who he was (died before I got born). She, being the doctor's wife was there when he died from a heart-attack before the age of 50.
Anyway, we also walked into her garden with old full grown trees that had completely littered the garden with their fruits / nuts.
Ping! I could use that for the exposed challenge. Most pics I made were Spanish/ Sweet Chestnuts in their just opened shell, but I didn't like the results much.
So I just piled some Sweet Chestnuts and a cracked open walnut on the leaf of a Canadian Maple tree. Exposed? Yes, of course, these nuts have been exposed to the world for the first time after breaking out of their shells today.
Location: Indoors, three lights from above, one from the side.
Cameratech: On tripod, manual focus, manual whitebalance, manual exposure, Macro mode, wideangle.
Post processing: Cropped the edges from 4:3 to 3:2 aspect ratio. Curves, channel mixing, resample, USM, save for the web.

YES! Now I'm hungry, between this and the food challenge I don't stand a chance! :)
This is a wonderful idea and having them on the leaf is a wonderful idea, a more natural setting as they say. The colors, the clarity and the balance are wonderful! The DOF also works well for this shot, I'm having a hard time finding fault with it so it must be a 10! |

Nice color and presentation. My personal preference would be more depth of field on this particular photo. Since all of your subject material is in close quarters, I can't see any real advantage in trying to isolate a single part of it. |

Good idea but somehow the composition just dosn't sit well for me... I think it is the light source that is throwing me slightly but none the less its a good image :0) |

This is a really good shot I especially like the way the nut is cracked ready to jump out. 9 Sue |

Very nice rendition of the challenge. The broken nut is in great focus, I also like the use of the leaf as background, keeps it nicely organic. The color of the chestnuts? against the green leaf gives it a bit more pop as well. Well done. 7 |
