 This picture was shot of the Essex Steam Train today. (10/22) The Foliage in CT is perfect this time of the year. I did some minor editing to lighten, remove a small mile marker, and an artifact from the reflection of the headlight in the lens. Thanks for looking.

Post Challenge: 8th place! Awesome for a first challenge. I am really excited. I like this picture a lot but agree with some of the comments that I wish I had a bit more of a profile of the train. It was beautiful and some of the details are washed out by the headlight. I had to run to an overpass to get this shot, setup for a shot through a chain link fence, and set exposure all while I hear the last train of the day coming around the corner. (this train is 2.5 hrs away from my house) Not bad for an out of breath photographer. The foliage is only good in this area for one week so you get a couple of opportunities a year to get good pictures here.

Hello from the Critique Club,

Congratulations on such a great score in your first challenge and a top ten finish to boot. Not much to critique here, as the image is so delightful. I must admit that I would love to play around with this image in post processing to see what could be done without changing the natural feel to it. Maybe bump the saturation or play with curves in just the green channel or mask for the smoke and see if some detail could be brought out with levels or curves. The best thing I can say about this image is that it is one of those fall type images I hope to take someday in my lifetime. Nice job.

Love this shot - the colours and that the train disappears at the point of rule of thirds makes it a great composition. I'm not totally keen on the beaming light, but otherwise a poster of a shot!

Great capture. The angle moves the eyes from the engine on around the bend. I think you could have used a little more saturation. I give it a 9.

I love the imagery that this photo portrays. The fall colors, the black train, the white smoke, the blaring headlight. I can almost hear the "chuf" of the engine. My only critique of this shot is that I think it would have had more impact if it were shot from a lower angle. Probably not possible, without endangering yourself or your camera. Overall, a great shot!

I'm of 2 minds here. 1 says leave it as is cause it's very pleasant but the other wishes you had made the leaves on the ground a bit more vibrant without really affecting the natural beauty of this image. Nice job.

Nice colors and contrast. I think if the camera was a bit lower or maybe a bit higher it would nearly perfect. High rating nonetheless.
