Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Urban Landscapes (Classic Editing)
Camera: Olympus C-5050Z
Location: Crown Casino, Melbourne AUSTRALIA
Date: Oct 3, 2003
Aperture: 2.3
ISO: 64
Shutter: 10 seconds
Galleries: Cityscape, Urban
Date Uploaded: Oct 3, 2003

This shot was a bit of a fluke. I set the cam to a 10 second shutter, but never changed the aperture to shut out more light. Anyway what resulted was this photo. It came out a bit lighter in the sky, but I used the curve and levels to darken the dark areas. I then played a little bit with the hue before moving to Neat image, then sparpened. I rotated the photo slightly, cropped and resized :)

I was inspired by a photo gordon took in a challenge from the same location. His shot was beautiful. Mine is no where near as good as his, but I am learning :)

I actually had really had problems last night when I took this, with my footware, so could not walk very well. Because of that, I am not really in the best location I could have been, thus the annoying tree, but I am still really really pleased with how this shot turned out :)

This is also my first entry with the Olympus C-5050z that I am buying off Kiwi, so no doubt if I do well and get my best score, he will take credit for it :p I was the highest ranked photographer with my old 1mp Kodak DC3200, some how I doubt I will even co me close to being ranked highly with this cam, with so many great photographers out there.

Great colors. The black sky really makes the buildings stand out. I like the greenery and reflections. Great photo. 10

This shot got a low score from me in the beginning because when I first glanced at it I saw fuzz and lots of it. Too much light, too busy, too, too, too. But coming back and taking more time to look at the shot, it's not really fuzz but the lights and the time of exposure which actually works very well, it adds a sense of a dreamlike state to the shot for me. Also the colors are very vibrant and the flow of the bridge is very nice. The only other little thing that jumps at me is the tree on the right, if the angle could have been slightly different or the crop, this would have scored a 9 or 10 with me.

I wish i was there.
Feels a little overexosed because of the lights' saturation.
I'd crop out the right 20% of the image - get rid of the trees and bushes.
Perhaps more water & reflection would help create more 'neon glow' that seems to be the message here.

Great content and framing. The variety of colors and soft focus make this an exceptional image. This will be a top finisher. Taken very close to your other winning shot.

Good colors, looks like everything was a little too overexposed IMO. I like the skyline.

A little over-exposed for my tastes...

was the overexposure deliberate? nice halo-ish feeling though the trees and shrubs in the lower right are distracting..

Oh, where is this, I want to go there!! Lovely photo. Great colour, very smooth, no visible distortion. Beautiful composition with a bridge. I bet this came out of a pricy SLR... This should ribbon.

Well done, great colors, nice reflections in the water (in fact, I would have tried for more water in the shot, the reflections look so good).

The blazing colors in the foreground contrast nicely with the large expanses of black between the buildings in the background. The reflections add to the effect.

Gorgeous shot. The colors are wonderful. Great clarity except for the slight blur on the bridge. But in my opinion it does not take away from this shot at all. Wonderful job! 9

In a shot like this I'm (personally) not sure I like the overstaturated colors. It's also a little blown out on the right hand side down low (between tree and bridge). With a shot like this I wish I could compare with original!

Nice vivid colors. A bit of blur on the right lights thought.

Nice photo - A little like Gordon's photo of people taken some time ago but taken closer to Swanston St. I'm from Melbourne myself - but didn't get a chance to enter this weeks challenge. Well done - I really like the glow of the signs combined with the sharpness of other details.
