Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Lens: Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM
Location: Hellisheidi, Iceland
Date: Jul 10, 2006
Aperture: F/5,6
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Black and White, Water
Date Uploaded: Jul 11, 2006

Taken with one 500w Bowens lamp at the model who is my brother Andri Thor. I did place the lamp left to him and above at 45° Some curves, contrast, hue/saturation work, shadow/highlight. Then Smart sharp.

Hellisheidi is a hot-spring area on Iceland, now the powercompany is building a PowerPlant that use the hot-spring, steam and the water to make electricy and supply for hot-water to the city and towns. This is taken at the one of the biggest test-holes for this PowerPlant that will open in 2007 I think

the model's awkwardness emphasizes the surreality of this picture. surrealism is an appropriate mood for unrestricted "progress" 8

Model is a little stiff looking, and the sun peeking between his arm and torso kinda makes him look like a Hollywood space alien. The billowing smoke (steam?) is interesting, and I like this in black and white.

As long as that's what's going on here I think that's fine. Nice photo.

i don't know why the guy is in the shot...i think it would have been more powerful without him. he looks kind of stiff and posed anyway. he takes away from the great texture of the clouds.

Get the bystander out of the shot and I think this would look 2x as good, exposure issues with the sun he is blocking notwithstanding. Nice photo.

I like the sun coming through the side of the guy. Geothermal energy? It's OK in B&W but I wonder if it would be better in color.

the light coming through his arm is a little awkward. it might have been more powerful as an accent on the smoke stack - if shot from a different angle. otherwise i would have had him scoot over just enough to hid the sun all together. otherwise i really like the image. contrast and sharpness is great!

Works well in b&w...also impressive smoke. Just not sure what the guy is doing there...maybe covering the sun :).

that's impressive...love that little burst of light near the arm, great as a black and white shot

I would have liked this a lot more without the person in shot

Why is the guy in there? And it looks like he has a fairy light coming out of his stomach. Nice smoke.

I like this shot. Problem is his armpit is shining.

This would have been a good pictures without the man standing in it.

Was the sun shining from under the man's armpit intended? If so, I don't understand why (other than technical necessity).
