I love the negative space. It does intrigue me that she's looking OUT of the picture and it comes across this well. A good example of breaking rules and it working well.
The lighting - obviously out of your control - IS a bit harsh :)

Wow, that negative space really makes this great! I wish you could've cloned out that stuff to the side of her- but basic editing is lame like that. Really cool portrait! :) |

First off congrats on your top 10 and a great score. This shot is composed and cropped beautifully. The negative space on top and left is a great compliment to the woman and her shadow. The color of her dress, lips and violin are also a great compliment to the eery feeling, glow and lack of color in her skin all topped off with the lower fog. This is a beautiful shot and deserving of the score you recieved. WEll done. |

::: Critique Club :::
Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.
Just a note ... every critique is a personal opinion .. it is up to you have you choose to use or ignore the information provided.
First Impression - the most important one:
Top ten .. wow ... lovely image .. well taken shot.
Composition:
The works for this shot .. things I would think about are .. where am I taking the eye of the viewer ... how am I creating something that will hold a person for the moment longer .. I think that you have created something to hold a viewer for slightly longer but my eyes get slightly caught up on the blackness above her head and stays there.
Subject:
Success like so many things in life is self-determined ... so yes I think this meets the challenge.
Technical (Colour and light):
I like the reds and how this colours pops or the picture .. getting and taking the picture with her shadow is fantastic ... it feels a little close to the bottom of the shot .. was there more black that you could have used below this or the edge of the stage ...
To grow its vote?:
Hey this got top ten .. which is fantastic ... to improve just try diffeernt crops etc.
Summary:
Fantastic shot ... well done .. she is a beautiful woman is a beautful situation and you took great advantage of it all.

First off, congrats on the personal best :)
Composition
Lovely. The only thing I would change slightly is leaving a tiny bit more space on the left, so that the spotlight is more centralized.
Technical stuff (exposure, dof, lighting etcâ€Â¦)
Lighting is beautiful, but seem to be blown highlighs on her face/arms/chest. Focus is fine.
Post-processing
only basic rules, so not much to say really. In advanced I would clone out that distreacting bit on the right.
Message/atmosphere portrayed
Has a very elegant feel to it, and the crispness & clean composition make it seem very professional, which really suits the subject matter.
Meeting the challenge
I'm in 2 minds about this, tbh - it does fit the challenge, but to me says more about "performance" or "perfection" than success.
My personal opinion
Beautiful image, worthy of its place in the challenge. Well done! |

Superb use of color and lighting. I like the off-centered figure. The one thing that I can't figure out is the small item in front of her (in the background?) Super score and congrats on the top 10 finish. |

Congrats on one more goal crossed off.
Camera Work/Technical: Excellent focus and great coloring. Excellent settings to catch a crystal clear image with no distracting motion.
Lighting: While it provides a great effect, I think that its a little harsh. It looks like you lost some detail in her face, as it was a bit overexposed.
Composition/Content: Wonderful in both areas. Her figure and shadow very well together to move the viewer through the frame.
My Opinion: You met the challenge very well, and you finished with a well-deserved top 10.

Congratulations on a new best, a GREAT score, and a top 10!! I didn't vote on this challenge but I did flip through the thumbnails and opened those that really said "success" to me without reading the title - this was one of those. Everything here works - colors are wonderful and the greenish mist at the feet really sets off the shadow nicely. Composition and framing is perfect. A very lovely photograph, very well done! |

Trading post...
Congratulations of your NEW PB and top 10! You really do just keep getting better and better. This is an awesome shot. I gave you a 9 in voting because I found that thing to the right of her arms floating in the air distracting (I still can't figure out what it is). I'm sure with basic editing there wasn't anything you could do about it. Without that I would have gone with a 10. Great shot! |

Excellent image. The use of negative space in combination with the light and that punch of red, really makes for a winning shot. Congratulations on such a well deserved finish. |

Coming back to comment: I returned to this photo quite a few times... you did an excellent job of photographing the violin player - I esp. like the mist/fog that encircles her ankles... does it show success? I think so... Well done! bumping up |

Great photo. I wish the violinist could be on the left side looking into the picture rather than out of it. I guess your seat was on the far left and it couldn't be done from where you were. |

To bad this is a basic editing challenge and you can't clone out the distracting element on the right middle of the image. Other than that minor detail, it's perfect. Excellent color, negative space, and shadows. Very dramatic effects. |

would be nice if she were looking into the image as opposed to out of it but have no idea if this were possible depending on what is outside the image. |
