"It was so hot outside, you could fry an egg."
- Dave Matthews Band, Stay (Wasting Time)

I gave the theme the cliche treatment. Since this is my apartment community's pool, I'm sure my neighbors thought me quite mad, repositioning a fried egg on the concrete and tripping over my tripod over and over instead of jumping in for a swim like a normal person.

Adjusted color balance, saturation, unsharp mask. Cloning got rid of a weird reflection in the pool, an intruding shadow near the number 6, and a few little pieces of leaves and dirt near the pool's edge.

Post-challenge: Sorry, I really don't understand why this scored so poorly. The one valid criticism is that no, the egg was not fried there, but in a small skillet. But really, a 5.2? Blah.

If it helps I'm also completely at a loss as to why this didn't do better! Love the shot.

First impression:

Funny, Good Focus and bright and colourful picture.
What can you do better?
I think that a different angle would have given this more. Maybe bend your knees a bit. The lines are good to follow to the subject but try also to use more the rules of thirds.

Greetings from CTP2

Great idea but the image is just so cool looking in every sense of the word :) that it fails to convey "heat", IMO.

Technicals:
Strong. Not much I can critique here. Everything from the detail on the pool side to the specular higlights on the chrome rails is just perfect. Good exposure here.

Subject/composition:
A good yet challenging subject to convey heat and I think you came real close. Composition-wise this works. I love the diagonal line and the off-center egg and rails. Really everything is perfectly placed.

Suggestions for Improvement:
The only one I have is challenge specific which is make this image look more hot looking. In other words, maybe make that pavement area more reddish in color? Not super hot red but something that gives even the slightest impression that it's hot. I think if the pavement looked hot so would the egg and so would this image in general and if that was the case this is easily a 6.5 scoring image, IMO.

Hello from Ãlex, CTP MkII

First Impression: Are you still living in the same place? or the neighbours send you to a madhouse? LOL You're really brave to make the shot on your apartment's community. I don't like people who knows me looking at me with my camera.
Composition: Not bad, but maybe the egg is too on the edge and too small to be the main subject.
Subject: very clever idea.
Technical: colors are OK, but maybe you need them a bit more orange to transmit heat. Focus and DOF are nice.
Improvement: I'm not sure, but maybe a closer composition and more reddish colors would help. Some smoke from the floor also...
Summary: Nice idea.

Hi!

I like this! its colourful. Maybe if the ladder seemed to be hot to the touch? I'm bot sure how one would do that.

Good one..

Hmm, 4th visit to this shot. The egg doesn't look as if it was fried there, I do like the composition and the inclusion of the '6' is inspired and, that will be my vote ;)

Good idea, but the subject is too small to have a real impact on the pic. The eyes are drawn towards the ladder, both because of its positioning in the thirds rule sweet spot and because of the shadows leading to / from it.

Nice flow in the composition, if you turn it over for 30s I'll have one please.

Nice idea indeed. The only issue I have is that to make it believable, the egg needs to be fried without constricting its shape. That egg was clearly fried or poached in a holder of some sort.

YES!!!! Funny!!!! I love your brand of humor! Great creativity!
Just my opinion, but the idea could be enhanced by increasing the yellow channel saturation in concrete surface supporting the egg. (This is easy enough to do, even in Photo Shop Elements.)
