Lucked out? Guess so. difficult to make any really useful points about this - technically its absolutely fine, and it has some outstanding points: love the composition - the three lines of distance from the rocks, the beach and the fog line, the balance of the boat and the disappearing line of the fog, all excellent. Minor point - think I'd have tried to keep the top of the aerial in shot, but that's very minor indeed.
For me it lacked a real feeling of desolation - not quite that strong an emotion I thought - though your assessment of the voters ideas is clearly more accurate than mine :-)
Love the light, the contrast, the progresion of tones here too.

This is a nice capture - you chose just the right time (or waited for it out in the cool morning) because the mist/ fog really adds hugely to the final effect. I like the foreground rocks and the off-centre composition. I'd prefer there to be no ropes holding her in place and likewise, the wooden pallette (sp?). Overall an image with a strong emotional mood conveyed.

| Briliant mist over the sea, however the shot is ruined by the boulders and the beach. From a careful angle, i'm sure I could have been conned into thinking that that was a ghost ship sailing inthe ocean. Also, perhaps if the image was in sepia, it would have portrayed a sense timelessness? |

| Nice boat. Nice rocks. Nice fog. I pretty much like everything about this picture. Very dreary and desolate. Conveys the feeling nicely. |

| This is a very interesting photo and I love the way the boat is so white. It catches your eye and makes you look at the rest of the detail. And the detail is so crisp. |

| this is an interesting shot and I wonder if a slight crop of the rocks at the bottom might not sharpen it up more..personal response here ..also I only know it's for sale (for whatever desolate reason) from your title |

| Looks like Lake Erie. I would have tried changing to sepia or mono to see if it had a lonelier impact. |

| One of my favorites so far. I love the mist in the background adding to the desolute feel of the tide abandoning the boat here. |

| Very desolate feeling with this one due to the fog and the low tide. It would be interesting to see what this would have looked like without the rock "wall" in the image. Top marks for this entry. |

| Very nice, not much I would change with this. The only thing that is even slightly distracting in it is the dark area in the fog at the water line at the right side of the picture. |

| Anyone growing up sailing or on boats can relate to the pit in the stomach feeling of being grounded. The mist in the background is quite appropriate. |
