| Well, it is hard to call this desolate but I can see where you were taking the shot. I think it is absolutely gorgeous! I don't think there is anything I like better than sunbeams and yours are so dramatic. I really like your choice of the blue duotone. It took me a look or two before I realized that it is not a color shot. The color and surface of the water is great, that is why I would like to see a little more water in the composition because it is so beautiful. That's my only complaint, if you want to call it that. |

Good photo.
The cool blue tones and black horizon profile make this pic communicate emptiness cq desolation. The sun trough the sky adds a point of interest. Even the mountains far away add to this in a split second. Somehow, despite the lack of a really strong point of interest, this my favourite for this challenge. |

| This is a beautiful photo, but rather than evoking a feeling of desolation, the rays of light shooting out from behind the clouds give me more a sense of hope and peace. The title alone doesn't alter this perception. Wonderful shot though. |

| I understand the idea of alone, but in my humble opinion, a forest by a lake with the sun peeking through the clouds displays anything but desolation. It is a nice picture, but it seems full of life to me. |

| I feel hope in this shot more than desolation. I like how the sun's rays are captured, but not for this challenge. Makes it too cheerful. |
