Greetings from the Critique Club!

First Impression of the shot is, as many have commented, that it is tilted. It distracts from the image. It would be more solid or grounded had it been level.
Composition....it is rather busy. It doesn't follow the rule of thirds.
It may have benefited form a different crop. Perhaps using the Statue as a stop point.

Technically, the lighting is alright for me. But gives the shot a snap-shot feel. It doesn't distract, but it doesnt add anything to the picture. And the face may have lost some detail.
Focus is great, DOF is fine.
I understand you are trying to move the viewer with the emotinal impact of the shot, perhaps a more dramatic angle, or lighting could have helped.

Overall, not a bad shot....work on your composition to make it really speak to us!
Thanks
Rae-Ann

I'm sure lots of people will express concern about your horizon's level of horizontalness. . . .

Slight tilt to the left distracts, from an over all good photo.
02/21/2006 06:27:26 AM
Try and keep the camera straight.

This composition isn't doing it for me, sorry, it's leaning too much.
02/20/2006 07:35:29 AM
Not sure if this was purposefully out of level, but it's very distracting.

Busy with the gate.

Why is she leaning to the left? The lean is a bit distracting to me. I hope you did that on purpose.

This photo would benefit by being straightened and I think it would have more visual inpact if you had left out the bushes, the railing and just kept the statue, the tree and the brick wall

branches in background are a bit distracting against the white wall. also the dead planters on the sides are a bit distracting. i think the angle is a bit off here too, i'd either overly emphasize the angle (from bottom looking up OR the left-right slant, but not both at the same time).
also a tighter crop would help bring this image to life a bit more.

A very busy picture with a lot of things vying for the viewer's attention. The angle may be intentional - it's "unsettling". If you were aiming for a more "solid" depiction of faith, a level frame would be more appropriate.

For me, your photo would have more impact if it weren't angled. Also, the ironwork obstructs the wording on the base of the statue. It's a busy photo and there are many elements to look at.

I can see what you're going for, but the slightly off angle makes it look like you're forcing interest into this photo

Certainly an appropriate image for this challenge, but the angle could use some adjustment.

to many things that you should have croped out.. don't like the tilt either

I'm having a hard time placing much Faith in man-made structures. Cliche and overused for this chellenge.

It's a nice structural shot, but falls short of this challenge.

Tilt!
02/15/2006 09:05:54 AM
I would rotate the canwas clockwise because She is tilting to the left for no need. This makes it like a snapshot, take care for the next time.
02/15/2006 05:47:57 AM
i dont like the tilt
02/15/2006 05:22:23 AM
try to balance this photo more
02/14/2006 09:16:12 PM
would have worked better had it been straightened.
