Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Wildlife II (Advanced Editing IV*)
Camera: Kodak DX4530
Location: Lone Elk Park in St. Louis County MO
Date: Jan 23, 2006
Aperture: f4.8
ISO: 140
Shutter: 1/20
Galleries: Nature, Animals
Date Uploaded: Jan 24, 2006

Taken with my 2x telephoto lense, about 20 or so feet from this elk. This was taken in the evening, so I had to do some post-processing. Increased the saturation, brightness, and contrast as well as a slight curve adjustment on all channels. Slow shutter speed due to late evening sun caused the slight blur.

This has potential to be a great shot. Needs it bit more light and sharper focus.

Under exposed and out-of-focus.

Good pic. Too bad about the complete lack of light. It looks like you tried to brighten it up and get some contrast to bring him out, but in so doing you burned your background edges on the trees.

Really dark. Could use dodge tool to lighten face and legs.

photo is too dark, and because of that, the antler branchings get lost in the background and the coat of the elk comes out much darker than one would expect it, also the cropping off of some of his antlers hurts too, this of course is all IMO

This could be so much better if it was brigher and you could see the face better.

This would probably be a good shot except for it being way under exposed. 3

Very dark and grainy, with a green glow in his eyes that looks a bit odd. Great to be able to get this close to an animal this big!

4 - Looks like possibly good potential. Criticism; nudge rotation up on the right, sharper, less contrast (looks like pp issues here), a tweaking of colors and a crop variation (depending what you had to work with) all make this better in my opinion.

Way too dark...either flash or shadow recovery would have helped this out.
