Is this art? Is it too gruesome to be art? Is it a political statement?
Aside from various ravens, magpies, and pigeons (none of which I managed to photograph), this was the only piece of wild-life I was able to capture as I was not willing to go stand in the bar in Kinistino and take a random candid shot). I think that says something about wildlife. Maybe that its a bit more dangerous than you'd think. Maybe that its not all peachy and pretty.
I tried to get a shot that included the road where someone hit it, but all thos shots came out looking like it had been decapitated. And I think that was a bit *too* gruesome. And I didn't want to make it black and white as I thought that would destroy the severity of the statement.
I gues sno one will read this, and I think I will get a lot of negative feedback for posting this photo as well as a poor score, but please look beyond the gruesomeness and give feedback for the photo, not the content.

Even though I could totally understand not wanting to be close to the frozen deer, a closer picture would have captured the over all emotion of the whole picture.. But also, I was a bit surprised to see a dead deer at first.. But honestly, It isn't about the object in the picture.. The color of the background.. It's about taking a good photograph.. Some people, animal activists or not, need to realize that that's what its all about! It's not like you killed the deer yourself, anyways..

too much talkin, too little art. (central composition = BAD, colors poor, exposition = overlit/overexposed(snow)), would have rated 1 or 2(max). More luck next time!

I read your comments, Twyla. Just going through the scores and thought I'd check out what comments you got, as I figured you'd get hit hard from some. I gave you a 6...thought it was a little over-exposed. (We live in the country and see that stuff all the time...that's reality. Didn't offend me.)

Edited for poor spelling. ;)

This is just an assault on my senses. Death is a fact of Wildlife, but I don't care to see it like this...

A little too soft... shooting in the snow is always challenging, as the metering may be off. This one is reasonably well done, although it is somewhat blown in parts.
Nice catch and nice take on the challenge. Quality isn't there to warrant higher score than 5 though.

Your score will suffer from grahic content but it's also a little over-exposed.

I think a different angle would have made it a little more compelling...maybe lower to the ground

horribly sad photo.. but reality.. thanks for sharing. As far as the photo goes might have tried playing with the contrast, curves and or levels a bit.. just to give it a bit more punch and vibrancy..

Please don't take this personal but I think you could have taken a better shot of something living! If you meant for this to be funny I'm not laughing. I see no merit in taking such a photo like this.

You'll have that. Hope PETA doesn't get you for this. ;)

eeek! this will get polarised responses...some will see it as art and give you high marks, others will be repulsed (animal lovers)...it will be interesting to see your score chart as there will probably be not many marks down the middle...gutsy effort

Honest. Wish it had more depth though.

So sad!

OOF, too grose, and just overall distasteful. Low score from me.

Very dramatic subject. Didn't you have more time to make sure of your focus though? This just doesn't look sharp to me. In fact, it kind of looks point-and-shoot, as if not much consideration went into the compostion beyond documenting the scene.

Road kill works for me.

Disturbing...

Intresting idea... but not the best photo. Maybe a diffrent agle or better flash or something. But i intresting idea, diffrent from the rest.
