First Impressions: This photo feels too much like a

snapshot. And has a few technical elements that just

keep it from being really moving.

---------------------------------------------------------

----

Composition: The composition does help to emphasize the

main subject. The main subject is almost centered and

might come across better if offset a little bit more.

Subject: The male subject's hand seems to be caught in

motion, it almost looks as if it is above her body. It

also is in a strange position. The background subjects

some across well.

Technical (Colour, focus, and light): Although the focus

is decent, the flash gives an unnatural feel to the color

of the main subjects and draws out highlights to a level

of becoming distracting elements. (The shine one the

forehead and hands.) The background signs could have

been a nice element if the clarity was better, however

the lack of clarity of a few of the signs makes for

distracting elements.

---------------------------------------------------------

----

Summary: This photo comes across too strongly as a

"snapshot", that's not to say that it is not a nice

capture of a fond memory.

To improve?: Try to eliminate some of the background

distraction. Perhaps an angle in which there are more

couples in the background and then setting the one couple

central and closer to the camera. And more natural light

or perhaps a light diffuser.

I do note that you're using a P&S so the use of an

external flash and light diffuser is not an option. But

I did read your profile that you just upgraded to a Canon

Digital Rebel. Consider an external flash and something akin to Fong's Lightsphere or other similar light diffuser.

constructive. If you have any questions regarding this

Cool imagery with wonderful expression both facial and general body language.

Youve certainly caught the feeling, maybe a little more concentration on focus and light next time.

That hand is kinda low, but at the same time not low enough. Make up your mind, either 5 inches up or 5 inches down!
Oh, yes, singled-out... meets the challenge, it is not DOF as much as lighting that accentuates the couple, but that is perfectly acceptable. My personal take on the challenge description is that it offers a guideline, not hard and fast rule. That said, while it meets the challenge, it does not have that wow factor that differentiates this photo from an average snapshot. Hence the average score, 6.

this is cool. i feel like i've been there all night partying. i like how you timed it so that the bud light sign was directly over her head. bartender...i'd like another shot of tequila.

I don't seem much DOF isolation here, and the shot is not interesting both composition- and story-wise.

The challenge asked for a person to be singled out in a crowd using shallow depth of field.
