Jmnuggy, obviously the shallow DOF was on the foremost egg. The wheat stick just enhanced that focus, and the stick I didn't move cause it was there naturally. The "shallow" dof falls on the egg and the focus off either side of the stick making the focus very obviously centered on the egg. You see, I followed actual "shallow" dof rules as per stated on 5 other websites I read of, and didn't just do an easy macro or bokeh as many many many did in this challenge. There is confusion lines before, on the sides, and after the center egg and its immediate surroundings, and that is what shallow dof is meant to be and look like. I don't care how many other interpretations others have of it, but technically speaking from my research, what I did was exactly as shallow dof is described. So it is the "egg" the "stick" and the "plant" all in that center dof area that was shallowed out.
Sunshine, thanks for the comment. I included the bottom of the photo so you could see the confusion line (blurred area) there. Doing that placed more emphasis on the egg and shallowed out area. Not unlike six nails in a row and the first two being blurred. In this photo the foreground was blurred for distinction.
Winter's Forfeiture, if anyone knows the meaning of Forfeiture, actually means taken by winter, or winter's taking, if the meanings were ever really researched. I find that a healthy title enhances a mood to a photo, and for those that didn't know what it meant, that was a shame. I took as much time for the title as I did the shot. It meant that these particular eggs will never hatch.
The outcome for this shot was surprising, but of really no matter. I loved the shot. I could have gone with your typical fence post, or marbles, or chess peices. I had them all. But wanted to be bit more scenic and emotive. It didn't work for some, but it worked for me and that is what matters.
I like this picture, and from your post I understand the picture more, but throught the title me and maybe others may not have known that the eggs were frozen as that is hard to see, i like the colors and the lighting in the picture but the picture seems cropped a little bit strangly to me. That's your own artistic eye, and just my opinion. If I could have seen a little bit less at the bottom of the photo and maybe more of the upper left where the eggs work great for the DOF. Just my 2 cents for ideas that I think might help improve as I know that helps. BTW, I am not posing as a seasoned veteran, because that I am not :) Just trying to help out if this does at all.
