Thanks Lee, I appreciate you taking the time.
I would have never selected a request for a critique, but the score was making me wonder what was wrong with it.
(other than not being Photoshopped to daylights)
Regarding what I quoted you on there, you are so wrong.

**Critique Club**
Initial Impression: Nice candid!
Detailed analysis: Personally I think this is a very good shot. The choice of using black and white was an excellent one. You've done an excellent job of capturing a very good "slice of life" image. The expressions on the women definitely convey a sense of celebration. The DOF is perfect. I think by not showing the entire circle of friends and focusing mainly on one woman, you've done a great job of reinforcing the feeling. My only nitpick is the one lady in the background. She does distract from the image slightly, but if you had waited for someone to pass in front of her to snap your shot, who knows, you may not have had as powerful an image. I didn't vote on this one, but if I did, I would have seen her as a distraction, but an unavoidable one.
Overall Impression:Brad, you do great work and I'm really not qualified to critique it. I hope you find this little bit of insight (from an untrained eye) helpful. GREAT SHOT!!! |

i only voted on a handful of the images and this one (by chance, I guess) was one of three I gave the highest score. I think challenge accuracy and true emotion won over here. So, yes for some PS rules. For others, it may be real impact that rules, you know? At least that is what I tell myself. |

Guess PS rules.
This was resized and converted only.
Maybe should have added some motion blur, grunge, bunch of actions &
filters, rotated it, background blur and finally selective desaturation.
Real life isn't really exciting huh?

I like the fun you captured on the two women, and your use of black and white. Too bad about the people in the background though. The blurred woman off to the right detracts my eyes from the ladies in the foreground. |

I like the relaxed & friendly atmosphere in this one, the background is a bit busy IMO |

Yes. Celibratory - good image, communicates well. There's difficulty with teh compositon as the in-focus lady is not the dominant element of the image. In a peerfect worl it would be either ther foreground lady or both of them |

Nice, love the close crop and the way the background is nicely blurred. Only one small crit and thats the old lady in the back, just a second later and she would have been out of the image. As it is she pulls the eye away from the main subject just a little too much. |

Nice catch! What is that poster in back? He doesn't look like he's celebrating :) |

Great candid capture. I like the movement of it. The lighting on the hair is good. Her open mouth adds to the shot as well. Circle of friends - nothing better. |
