FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB

Hello, Jacob,

You picture is a good idea for sound. It meets the challenge well.

Focus is right for what you wanted to convey, the speaker vibrating as the sound goes through it. Light also is fine, the white of the brand name is very nice, blacks are fine. IMO, choice of BW is good. The border is beautiful, very well done.

I agree with your commenters below that (1) you probably should have cropped differently, and (if possible) included some more of the speaker for context and contrast to the motion blur area; (2) the motion blur is subtle, so much so that it's easily missed or confused with simple blur.

Overall, this is a good entry to "Sound", but unfortunately it's not a picture that will grab the viewer. OK, keep going (taking pictures!).

Subtle, but nice implication of sound. Motion blur works well.

This one mighta been better had you cropped a little wider, to get some of the non-moving part of the speaker in there to give a context for the cone. As it is, it just looks out of focus, even though I know it's not.

Without the title I would just say 'too blurry' and move on. With the title, I'm wondering if you were trying for the motion of the speaker. It works for the topic, although it's not something that terribly grabs my interest. The contrast is a little on the harsh side, and the lighting reflection just makes things look more blurry.

Yeah, good job capturing the movement! Great lighting also. :)

The picture clearly fits the challenge. The contrast is good. Good composition and the border works well. Good job.

I like the idea of capturing the speaker in motion as the bass moves it... but I think this may have been stronger had you included more of the speaker. This way, the rest of the speaker would have been in focus, providing emphasis on the blurred woofer as it moves.
