Since this is an Advanced editing challenge, I think I'd make a mask for the background, and both blur and lighten it to help create some separation from the subject.

Cute first day shot. To me, the background seems a bit...motion blurry (hope that makes sense), but a nice keepsake photo.

What a great shot! The stripes on the shirt really stand out against the rocky backdrop. I think you really captured the excitment of that first day! Well Done.

Nice skin tones...the warm colors are very becoming and do well against the neutral/blue toned backdrop of stone behind him.
