Image wise, I think this was technically very good, and I'm not sure what critique I can add. I think the dof choice works well, and the down on the ground perspective is effective. Compositionally, perhaps this might have been different and more punchy as a landscape format, perhaps showing the entire legs and a bit more of the background. The water bottle is an anchoring point I think, and it being in the middle of the frame (horizontally, not vertically) seems a bit heavy. Subject matter is an important one, and yes, I feel this image does speak to some extent about it.
On its placing in the challenge, well, I'm not surprised, as this is not the typical DPC pretty image. Kudos to you, I think, for submitting this.

i like the blurred foreground and dof of this image...bottle in foreground is good touch

Such a sad picture, a too often seen situation in our world. You have captured this moment perfectly and stirred emotion in me. The focus and sharpness on the mans face is just right. I would not change a thing, bumping up to a well deserved 10.

It's nice. Cool concept. I think the bottle should have been in focus.

Nicely composed. Striking composition. Very sharp. Effective use of b/w.

Very good shot. I have bumped this up. I am not 100% with the title as the scene seems to need something stronger... 'desperate' or 'destitute' (IMO)

I like this picture, but the foreground object looks too much like a water bottle and thus doesn't quite fit the scene. Had it been a liquor bottle, I would have left it in, otherwise I may have cropped differently or removed it. 7

A very poignant shot which tells a story without the need of a title. I like the vertical format also. Well done.

Really like this, but I like contrasty B&W. Hope this is staged. Doesn't matter anyway...love it

Very nice, but I would have tried to crop out the bottle... but very nice anyways.

Nice photo, it would have been a tad more dramatic if the bottle had been a liquor bottle rather than a spring water bottle though. Good nonetheless.

Very dramatic image, sad too. I am not sure about the blur at the bottom. Very creative. 7
