| Hi David. I love this Eclectus shot. Very cool bird. You captured an interesting pose. Personally, I like the sparkle in his eye...I don't see it as distracting. It is just the right amount. Without it, the round eyeball would look flat. My eye is immediately drawn to the bird's eye, then the beak. My eye moves around the photo in a fluid motion. A very successful and beautiful photo. |

*Critique Club*
The first thing I notice here is that the bark is really really in focus and sharp. Right around the feet of the bird. See how that seems much more strong than his eye? I would prefer this the other way around. His eye really is an eye catcher. The title is perfect, and That is exactly what I want to look at here.
However, with the bark being so clear, I'm sitting here admiring the detail you captured in the bark, and ignoring his eye. Also, there is a bit of a glare in his eye, which is really too strong to be considered an effective catch light.
Personally, I think you did a good job of getting the fence out of the way. The blurred background works very nicely and is effective in reducing distractions on the bird.
Lighting appears to have been just great. Conditions look like they were working with you on this day. With the tiny exception of the glare in the eye, I think that the lighting creates no distractions. No bright light, no annoying shadows. Nothing.
The angle and framing/cropping are ok. I think that I like having him bent over like this. It makes for a 'different' kind of view than we usually see with the bird 'sitting pretty'. I do think though that maybe he could have a little more room to breathe on the right side. I think this would just be a suggestion that I would have to SEE in order to say if I really liked it or not. He himself is so spread out, that it makes for a spread out shot to begin with. Making the shot even bigger could actually damage the shot and not enhance it. So take that suggestion as just an experiment rather than a dead set 'must have'.
Overall, I think he's really pretty, and it's well done. A bit more focus, and I think this would have topped even better.

| I love the colors on the bird and the photo generally -- it looks to me like you shot through the cage to get to the bird, and having done that frequently at zoos, I know that's not all that easy to do. Good work! |

| Great picture. Only gripe is that the depth of field appears to be too close to the lense to ahve gotten the full effect. The bark is a little sharper than the parrot's head. Still, one of the better pictures in this challenge - 9 |

| That's actually kinda sinister looking... Good colour choice, nice angle of shot and focus. Also nice to see something a little different. Fits topic well. |

| Very nice. Although I would maybe have had his eyes not so close to the border. They are the attention grabbers of the photo and it's a bit weird having to look so close to the border... |

| This bird has a lot of presence and the title is very à propos because he and i are constantly making eye contact. Colors of the bird are fantastic, so is the clarity. A little unfortunate is that the color of the perch is pretty much washed out and that the cage lines are stronger than would have been ideal; it competes a little with the bird for attention. But something has to give, i guess. 8 |

| nice colors, dof, detail. composition wise, you might have not cropped so close on the right and bottom sides since that is the direction she is looking. normally a fence/net in a fauna picture looks really bad, but here the effect is quite cool. |

| very interesting bird... good composition and use of complementary colors as well... The shallow depth of field also isolates the bird from the environment nicely... = 7 |
