 We've only had one other substantial electrical storm this summer, and this session was the first time that I've successfully photographed lightning. This picture was taken about 20 minutes after the storm had moved East of me, taking the rain and lightning with it. After about 7 minutes without any visible cloud-to-ground strikes I was about ready to pack up my gear and try to make due with one of the other images I'd captured. As I was debating whether it was worth staying any longer I witnessed this touchdown and knew that there wasn't any point in waiting for something better.

Predictions:
- There will be at least a half dozen other pictures of lightning entered in this challenge
- At least one of the competing lightning pictures will be more dramatic than mine
- At least one of the competing lightning pictures will be better edited than mine
- This image will end up with a score in the low 6s
- I'll receive at least one comment about the rather aggressive crop
- I'll get at least as many comments on the title as I do on the image itself


Editing steps: Levels, saturation, multiplication layer, burn layer, crop, resize

Check your compression and file size. There seems to be some deterioration in the image quality as shown in the black and purple colors. Other than that, this is such an amazing capture that I would be happy to have in my portfolio. 6

A very lucky capture! However, I think perhaps a little too long of an exposure. Don't take it heartidly, Ive never been able to capture lightning.

Wow, I love lightning shots, added to my favs! The buildings give nice context, especially the one with the cross. The horizon looks slightly tilted.
