haha, it took my a while to think of a good idea for this challenge... i finally thought to put my brother on a chessboard... lol, it took me quite a while to properly shoot this... i was trying to focus mainly on the person... i think the pawns in the foreground are too blurry for this to score very well... o well life could def. be worse

took a picture of my brother looking like a king, printed it and cut it out... set up a chessboard and put his picture in place of the king... i held it up with a piece of thread while i shot then cloned it out afterwards... haha

cloned a bunch (some of the red background)
desaturation
curves
unsharp mask
crop
burn a tad

Interesting concept, although the person seems a bit flat to me and the colors of the chess pieces and the red background fight with each other. I wonder what this would look like with a light tan/brown background, similar to the foreground color of the chess board.

Great illusion...can't wait to hear how you did this.

This is by far the best perspective shot that I've seen in a very long time. The only thing that I would change is the background. If ya select it and use a levels or curves you can get rid of the wrinkles.

Before I voted, I realized that you probably fooled me twice. This isn't a perspective shot is it? You cut out the picture of the guy and propped it up in place didn't ya...

Good concept and composition.
The backdrop is a little distracting in my opinion (wrinkles)
To perfect this, maybe have the guy lit from the same side as the chess pieces? (7)

A very nice image and concept. There is a minor ambiguity with the lighting and it becomes apparant on second look. The pieces have the biggest highlights on the left and they cast noticeable shadows but the subject has the main light from the right. Personally I would have had the lighting coming from the same direction. However, the set up is very nice.

interesting illusion. I like the idea, my only concern is the lighting is a little distracting on the chess pieces.

i really like the angle you choose to take his photo - the playing pieces need the same sharpness the boy has also the shadow it on his left side where as the light is reflected on the chess pieces left side - needed to switch the positions up a little so the ligting matched up.

Good execution of the illusion. The picture, however, IMO is visually unappealing. The colors are off. The red background is casting off color onto the chess pieces and then there is a yellow hue on the board. I think that this would look better in B&W or at least desaturating the yellows and perhaps some of the red. I also do not like how half the face of the human figure is in shadow. 4

Good try. The noise is a bit distracting. Maybe clone out the creases on the red fabric.

If only the background had less noise... Nice photo

Neat idea and cool shot. Wish it wasn't as grainy as it is though - that's a bit distracting. Otherwise, great job.

The illusion is very strong. There is a problem with the lighting. Your figure has strong lighting from his left, while the chess pieces are double lit from the right and the left. 5

Nice one. A lot of noise though that does not really contribute. If you look at the chess eices. Especially the bishop, youll see the direction of the key light. On the model the key light is from the opposite direction and what should have been in the highlight is in shadow.
