Critique Club:
Hi Gotchya. I see from the comments you got on this image that there was a variety of feelings reaching different ends of the scale. I find a lot of the commentors and voters weren't to pleased about seeing the American flag's colors changed, and this is the reason your score was so low.
Technically speaking though this is a a good image. The detail and the ripples, along with the play of shadows in the flag work well. The cropping is effective. The colors, well you have gotten your primary colors for sure, but I think you paid a price in your score for the changing the yellow to white.
Good luck to you in future challenges.
Gary

Compositionally fine, but I don't think I find the yellow particularly effective. |

I'm not sure that you meant this but the change of white to yellow in the american flag makes a political suggestion. |

Nice work! You got your primary colors for sure. Did you use yellow lighting or did you get the effect through post processing? |

I understand what you were trying to do with this by manipulating the colors or by using a filter to make the white stripes yellow. Although you were successful in meeting the challenge, it turned the flag into a displeasing color and very unnatural. I do like the ripples and shadows in it though. |

I like it. How did you get that effect? With lighting? Or Photoshop? |

Uhm. Why are the white bits yellow? It's very odd-looking. The first impression that jumps to my mind (besides 'he turned up the yellow in photoshop for no reason') is 'Wow, someone peed on the flag.' Probably not what you intended. |

Who peed on the flag? Doesn't work because it's unnatural. There ARE red/yellow/blue flags... |

I understand the effect you are going for here but the yellows still seem out of place. Was the sunset or sunrise causing the yellow or did you adjust the color balance to acheive this? |

Whew whoooo good idea! And a nice, well composed shot as well. You get a 10 just to offset the 1's you'll probably get. Keep up the great work! :)

Maybe you meant no disrespect, but I think you should not alter the American Flag or any country's flag . |

I'm not american, but I don't think I like to see colors changed on a flag. I kind of looks to weird. However, the sharpness is good and I like the way the ripples flow. Jacko. |

I wonder if there is meaning behind this. Yellow usually means "coward", and on a flag it is powerful. Don't know if you intended that or not - you may have been playing with the colors just to incorporate the yellow in the shot.
Photographically, it is in need of better focus, and the straight on perspective makes it have limited interest. |

Nicely done. Seems like sunshine changing the colors. Maybe too much yellow but I like it. |

it's disrespectful to display the United States flag in this manner. |

Not sure how well I like this. The yellow on the flag can be interupted 2 different ways. It is however a very good image of the flag its just the yellow, although I can't say to much cause I thought about doing the same thing but didn't cause of the 2 meanings right now. Good luck and hope you don't get to many negative comments cause of being a US flag. Technically speaking it is good! Well worth a 7. |

White usually stands for purity in the flag. What does yellow stand for? Nice lines and contrasts here. The fold in the middle works well. |
