The rattlesnake was almost the symbol of American Independence rather than the Bald Eagle. Here is a link to read all about it:
Don't Tread On Me
This snake was crawling on the road, very slowly, while my husband and I were driving around looking for a picture for Family. I think it must have just eaten something as it was stretching its mouth out like it was trying to get it back into place after swallowing something. It wasn't in any hurry to crawl anywhere, so I got out of the car and stood a safe distance away and took some pictures at 220mm. It seemed very independent - almost to the point of defiance - so I decided to put it in the challenge. It is the first time I took a picture of a rattlesnake, I'm surprised I had the "guts" to get out of the car and take a picture as I generally am not a snake fan. Usually snakes crawl away quite quickly - I think this one must have been so full after eating that it could barely move. It was mad, though - kept shaking it's rattle. |

I love reading the descriptions after a challenge. This is a great shot, and I find it even better, knowing the situation under which you took it. YOU GO GIRL!! Nice lighting and perspective. I'm intrigued by the fact that it's almost that yin and yang with shadow to the left and light to the right. Very cool. The overall composition is simple and uncluttered. Much like how a snake lives his life. (Oh wow, I'm getting way too deep here).
You've got more nerve than me. Reptiles??? NO thanks - give me something with fur any day. |

I'd prefer for a greater depth of field but maybe it is safer to stay where you were. The reference in your title is good and the low angle of light adds some nice dimension. Overall, framed well with nice curves. Nice job. |

Great idea. Which there was more dof in the tail particularly. |

Great shot..I like the rattlesnake against the texture of the pebbles..good use of dof and lighting..the sinuous shape draws the eye inward. |
