This was just one of those lucky shots. The person in the jeans is another DP Challenger, but the couple with the red umbrella just happen to be there. Thanks for the comments. I agree with all of you who said I should have gotten rid of the parking lot. Cropping is still something I am learning.

Cool shot, I just wish the people on the left and right side were gone. The umbrella stands out nicely.

No question. This is my number one pick. You absolutely nailed the 'flavor' of the place.

Love the red

Its hard to take a bad picture of El Capitan. Yours excells with the wonderful composition and great subject matter. The RED umbrella tells the weather story. I would have liked to see the umbrella even brighter .

That red umbrella was a stroke of luck, eh? Not to mention catching Obi Wan on vacation. I always wonder when shooting other photogs; is it incest or cannibalism? Congrats on a beautiful image.

I love the way the umbrella jumps out of the picture. hope you got some nice shots of the landscape as well.

Good human interest and technical. I like the composition and framing, nice.
05/30/2002 06:04:00 AM
I really like the overall shot - the red umbrella makes it.
05/29/2002 01:21:00 PM
Very nice picture...

Great capture. You got the feel of the weather, wet and cold. Time of day is there. And the perspective is very nice. I feel so small.

Nice shot of Yosemite, but your people came out much like shadows. A very difficult concept to pull off, people observing something in the distance and still do both the people justice. Yosemite appears to be your subject and the people got in the way. I like this concept best when you can get some face (profile) with the background, instead.

This is a little dark, of course...it's raining and I understand that. The scenery through the mist is beautiful though. I would have liked to have seen it cropped a little closer at the bottom so there isn't so much pavement showing...but I like this.

I really like the low-key effect of this photo. Good composition. Did you supply the red umbrella? One of only two 10s this week.
05/28/2002 07:43:00 PM
I like the splash of red against the starkness of the background Did you use fill in flash as I feel the figures in the foreground could have done with a bit of fill in flash.

I like the red umbrella. I wonder how it would have looked with the blue even more desaturated, to make those blue pants a little greyer, and pull the emphasis more towards the umbrella. Alternatively, I wonder if you could crop out the parking lot, and the girl on the left and most of that tree, leaving the umbrella on the left side of the picture.
05/28/2002 05:22:00 PM
I hope you took some landscapes too....
05/28/2002 05:13:00 PM
too much parking lot
05/28/2002 10:54:00 AM
Awesome. I like the dark of the photographers against the light mountain.
05/28/2002 10:11:00 AM
This photo is awe-inspiring... The size of those mountains really is overwhelming. I have no critique for you on this one... The red umbrella offers a wonderful bit of contrast to go along with the weather mood in this photo... great shot! = 10

I like the red umbrella, kinda makes it look like the rest of the picture has been desaturated. I might've cropped to the bottom of the curb to cut out the "parking" word and to put a little more focus on the vastness of that mountain in the back.

The tree on the left seems to help frame the mountains nicely while the right side is left open for the eye to leave the frame.

This is great
05/27/2002 03:01:00 PM
Good landscape. The people really show the grandeur of the view.
05/27/2002 02:36:00 PM
i like the lone red umbrella..
05/27/2002 12:45:00 PM
Love it! Just a good shot. Fine composition. Only little nit I have is the bottom should be cropped more. Over all a good good shot. Nice job!!
05/27/2002 11:38:00 AM
Nice composition but too much of the road in the foreground
05/27/2002 10:11:00 AM
I like the red in the umbrella. nice comp.
05/27/2002 10:10:00 AM
the red umbrella and the perfect composition are the touches that make this photo come alive. and you lucky dog, you got to go to yosemite!
05/27/2002 05:25:00 AM
you got take what the weather gives you
05/27/2002 05:21:00 AM
Almost black and white except for that umbrella. Might make a good ad for Traveler's Insurance.

That red umbrella makes this photograph. I gave this my highest rating!
