Greetings fromt the Critique Club
Hi Ed!
Composition
Excellent work on the composition - I'm glad we can't see behind the nearest big tree. I love the growth here, but I almost wonder how much is down toward the ground - perhaps a half-step back would have given us some context?
Color
I love the colors here - they aren't jump-out-and-scare you, but they really do set the tone for this shot. I wish the growth was a touch more green.
Contrast
Personally I like the contrast. I wish this kind of shot did better - lower contrast, not so much "POP!" But that's just me!
Focus
The detail in this shot is amazing. Did you try one with a shallow DOF on just the growth and let the stuff behind fuzz out? Maybe interesting to try.
Lighting
Almost a bit too much from your "shaft of spring sunlight." I like how they make the leaves glow, however. Hard to control this element - what kind of day was it?
Subject matter
Perfect for this challenge. The growth of new plants out in nature, surrounded by all the old - it's superb.
Overall
Congrats on a well-done picture. :)

Awesome composition. The colors seem a touch muted. Was it a hazy or rainy day? Maybe a bit of contrast/brightness, or saturation would have helped give it a bit more "punch." |

Good pic here, I like the way you have composed this. The sun shining on the leaves and tree gives this image a choice effect. |

nice pic but looks like there's a bit of flare and glare into your lens from the lighting angle. use a lens hood or your hand as a hood. |

Very pretty how the leaves catch the light but the rest of the forest doesn't... Not really sure whether I like where this picture was cut off at, I think getting down and shooting up might have been better... nice serene look to the photo though. Good detail on both the leaves and the bark of the tree. |

What a wonderful idea. Those leaves shine like gold in this darkened forest! Looks like an oriental arrangement or composition. With a little less contrast (brights and darks), I think the image would work even better. Still, simply marvelous eye! This is great photography! |

I like the soft look here and a fabulous representation of fauna. The only thing I'm thinking here though is that while the most of this picture is dead trees, the green in the foreground seems a bit out of place. But I still like it. |

the sunlight highlights the subject perfectly. Nice composition with the trees fading into the distance, bits of green peeking through. The photo has atmosphere. Wish the maple were a little more interesting. |
