Actually, the missing piece was really the original subject; that small hole in the big picture. Maybe I should have left the piece out altogether.
As mentioned in the notes, I has strong lighting from a window. In an Advanced Editing challenge I would fix the tone with a gradient mask (similar to having used a graduated ND filter on the camera), but with Basic Rules I couldn't do that.
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions! |

Doesn't seem very minimalistic. 4 |

Nice idea. IMO, the lighting could use a little work. The left is a little too bright and the right is a little too dark (where your focal piece is). |

The strong point is not the missing piece. |

This image is very busy, particularly given the challenge topic. Minimalism would have been better achieved by showing a single puzzle piece. |

Not close to minimalism imo. |

;) took me few seconds to find the place for the missing piece, nice idea but not very interesting picture |

Very good idea, however it just seems that the whole picture itself is the poster. Maybe if you included a better angle and some drama like a hand picking up the piece, it would have been a higher scoring picture |

VERY nice concept and good overall picture. but i will offer my comments and ideas:
i think that the lower left of the picture is somewhat overexposed and lets me know exactly where your light source was =) another part of the photo that i may improve on is the overall composure of the shot. part of the challange states that the subject (the final piece) must be the strong point of the picture. in the case of this photo (as well as many others in this challange) my eyes feel distracted and lose concentration on the subject. to fix this i may have tried this shot in B&W, or held the camera closer to the puzzle piece and used a shallow DOF and had the rest of the puzzle in the background.
just my opinion though GL......7 |

I see where you're coming from, but I think this is a little too "busy." |

very very interesting concept.....the only thing i could add is that the west coast is having much more sun than the east....and being an east coast girl....well i would like it to be more even |

it's a small subject, but does not catch the eye as a compositional center |

A very nice idea, but not enough draws the eye to the final piece, other than the title. I would have suggested shooting from one side, going for a very narrow depth of field, to bring that piece into sharper focus, and the rest of the puzzle blurring out. Also, the left side seems a bit too bright, and glares somewhat. |

The idea is great, but the lighting could be better...the right side is too dark. Nice shot. |

This type of shot always exposes the lenses barrel distortion. |

I really like the concept but I don't think the photo does enough to make the puzzle piece the center of focus. Perhaps it would work better if the puzzle was darker than the last piece, and maybe if the composition placed the last piece more toward the center of the photo. |

Well to me this is really busy and I don't see it as fitting the challenge. Also the left side is blown out and the right is dark. ? Maybe this was done intentionally, I don't know. |

Great idea. It's busy, though, and it wasn't until I looked up at the title for help and then searched for the last piece that my eye picked it up. Colors came out nice and rich, though. |

The lighting isn't even. You could try to darken the whole photo except your subject. |

In minimalism; the subject should consume only a small portion (how much is debateable) of the overall image. If the puzzle piece were in focus and the rest of the puzzel burred or background to the piece, that would be minimalism. |
