This photo is true to the old adage, that a picture says a thousand words. Your image provides a sad commentary on some down and out people of our society.
The black and white style gives it a gritty and realistic feel. The position of the man in relation to the cars also sends a message. Its almost like life is passing him by. Like he is boxed into a corner. That the only thing left for him is to beg. And the only thing he has to communicate with, is this old worn out sarcastic sign. He in turn has a wry smile and has turn society off, with his demeanor and his earphones.
Again great capture and shooting style. I believe this photo would appeal to most voters, but there would be some that can not relate to it. Good job, and good luck in your next DP Challenge.

Is is really honesty that we are reacting to? I think we all react when someone asks you for your money, whether you believe they need it or not, or for whatever reason. I don't believe it is honesty that prevents people from dropping some coins, it's the confrontation and the apprehension of people that are perceived a bit unpredictable. But this is just speculation on my part. Asside from that, a mutual friend showed me some of your photos here (socalmotocross a hint?). I like this photo. It has nice textures; deep blacks with the motion in the background. Even the pickup truck's shiny, expensive rim contrasts the beggar. |

Once again a reality shot. The reality of life for some. What we take for granted and life as it is. Amazing what a sharpie can do. Well done. |

haha!!! Great capture! Excellent composition and I love how your used the slow shutter speed... the cars would have distracted from the person holding the sign. Great job!!! |

Truth in advertising?
Good portrayal of something so often seen, but with a twist.
Great use of motion blur to compliment the shot. (7) |

Oh, that is soooo good. I'd love to meet this guy and shoot him sometime myself (with my camera, that is). Great real life candid. I love the inclusion of the cars zooming by. This shot has such great reality and makes me ask questions of what I see. Perfectly done. |

Made me laugh. I've seen other panhandlers with similar signs. Better to tell it like it is... |

I'd give the guy a few bucks just for the chance to ask him whether his honesty got him more money than a more typical "help a Vietnam vet" type sign.
I think that the blurry cars in the background, while a bit more distracting than I'd like, do help to emphasize his separation from the rest of the city dwellers. |
