Thank you all for taking the time to comment. I guess I was quite enamoured of this particular photo and just couldn't understand why no one else was. I can look at it with more clarity now and I see what needs to be improved, so thanks. |

There is no main subject in this image, or, the main subject doesn't make itself known. |

The shot fits the challenge though it really is lack-lustre to say the least. When entering into these challenges, there has to be some "zing" to the image in order to draw the viewer in closer and this one seems very bland. The composition is adequate and whether or not the building is abandoned is irrelevant. The saturation should have been boosted and the shot is fairly grainy as well. Too much hope was placed on linking the photo with the title. Thought the title is well thought, the photo pales in comparison. I can understand your enthusiasm for the "angle and perspective" of you photo but the remaining elements diminish those strengths. Your other photos are good and I encourage you to keep snapping as time will definitly improve your images.
You asked.......so there it is. |

I'd have to say, trying to be a "mass voter".. that:
a) The shot is too busy. Your composition has the viewer wandering all willy-nilly without too much of a basis for grounding. The pipe doesn't stand out enough, and the title is our only link to what the focus should be.
b) It simply doesn't look abandoned enough. I mean, it *does* look run down and neglected, but not enough that one could look at this for all of the 2.82828112002 seconds that a voter looks at it and say, yah.. this building has definitely been vacated permanently.
c) While *I* like it, the desaturation in your colors probably led to a bit of a disinterest as well.
So, there you have it.. the 3 main reasons why I would say your image did pretty poorly.. the fourth, of course, is the old stand-by.. you just never can tell with voters. |

Hmm, bright midday sun, no interesting shadows, and no feeling of depth to the building. Interesting composition though. I'd advocate for a later in the day reshoot. Or an earlier in the day reshoot.

I guess I don't understand the title (sorry). If my attention is supposed to be drawn to the pipe, you did a good job. As for the building part, well, there's not much there to judge on. Your composition is done well. It may not be screeming "look how well I fit the theme" but I still think it's a very good photo. |

Very good composition here, monochromatic coloring works, but really could use a spot of color to keep the viewer interested. |
