 Sorry to disappoint some folks, but its pretty straight forward, all i used was an old table, a can, 2 bottles of 'value' cola, and a bath!! The original shot, and some set-up shots can be viewed in my portfolio. I cut a hole in one side of the can, and peeled it back to give the 'burst' effect. Directly opposite i cut a larger hole, for pouring the cola through. At 90 degrees to that hole i pierced a small hole, just large enough to fit a small bolt through, and using a number of washers as spacers attached it to an old white table top with a hole drilled through it. I then put the set up in the bath (it can get messy!),set the camera on a tripod with a halogen desk light to the back right of the set-up, set the camera to 'multi burst' mode, set the timer, and just as the first shot was taken began to pour the cola......

Greetings from the Critique Club!

This is a vibrant, attention grabbing shot that is very well put together in terms of composition, lighting and unique subject matter.

For some reason I think I̢۪d like to see this shot with a different background, maybe still white but not as bright, or the letters on the can brightened. The bright background is distracting to me. I think if the white balance of the letters were similar to the background my eyes would be focused exclusively on the can and explosion, but the background is competing.

I̢۪m interested to know what I̢۪m seeing reflected in the can.

All that said, this is a great shot!

I figured this was how ya did it. I've shot so many cans and there are always dents all over the can when ya really shoot one. Great placing and shot though. Van

Well it might be cliched, done before, whatever, but you just won yourself a ribbon. Extremely well executed. Sure it would have been stronger without the little dint in the front of the can, and if you had figured out a way to actually pierce the can with a projectile or sudden burst rather than the sneaky means you've adopted here - not 100% sure exactly what you've done but I know there's SOMETHING going on to the left of the frame, but still, I like this a lot.

I'll stop rambling and get to the point.

I think a darker background would have helped keep the soda from blending in. Cool shot any way, though!

Absolutely exceptional. Lighting is supberb and the timing perfect, as it would have to be. If you don't have an explanation of what equipment you used for the timing here on the photo description could you do me a favour and send me the details, with a web link if appropriate, as I am after some way of doing similar shots myself. 10+
