Hehe btw-this is not my dog but he looked very sad and yet cute at the same time....so i waited for him to finnish barking at me and then i took the shot........

i think it even with the backround the way it is counts as a portrat but not may agree.....it is more of a candid portrat or a classical art shot then a really studioised portrat.

anyway just though i would give an explination

I like this shot, but I think it would have looked better without the Photoshop blur on the sides that you applied in post. I find it distracting.

Interesting technique (lens baby or something?) - this is evocative and delivers a good sense of context and character. Not your typical portrait so good on you! I just wish you had him off-centre in the comp.

The dog is too far away to be considered a portrait and why is your best friend chained up?

I love the context here-the background really adds to my sense of him/her. I like your crop a lot, not crazy about the shadowinng on the sides. Overall really like this shot.

It's hard to see your friend from so far away. Some of the background is distracting.

Soft focus on sides is distracting.

Nice effect on the shot but the dog is such a small part of the overall picture it ends up fighting for your attention. The lack of details on the dog is also a bit of a let down. A 4

The dog is kind of lost in the background with all the garden stuff..I think he needs to be closer to camera.

The dog is too far away. A closer shot may have allowed some character to come through.

seems to be more of a snapshot to me than a portrait, would like to see him closer up and without the chain.

I love the outfit, and the black and white. However, I wish it was a bit closer. As a best friend, he looks a little sad to be tied up and so far away - probably just because he wondered what you were up to behind the camera - but it I would have prefered to see him much more close - to be able to see into his eyes a bit more. 8
